New PB on 00VI, great air, bad track

Ran at new england dragway last night (friday 10/6) and bettered my old pb of 15.1@91.5 by a lot:

60' 2.354
1/8 9.587 @ 74.95
1/4 14.736 @ 96.12

Got 4 runs total and 3 were in the 14.7s, one was 14.93 with my 210 lb friend on board.

Car is a 96se 5sp with ~150k, 00vi, no tuning, intake/y/full exhaust and some minor wt. reduction (full interior, empty trunk). I run sawblades currently and h-rated yoko h4s. Working on getting a lighter rim solution though. I also really really need an EU, but due to $$ will probably have to settle for a used s-afc for next year.

The track was pretty bad, felt like 1/2way between a dry road and a wet road in terms of traction. I couldnt get a hard launch to save my life, and hooking 2nd wasn't a possibility either. Best 60' was a 2.28 but worst was a 2.45. Had a blast and nearly ran down my friend's 04 wrx with a cat-back but missed 4th before almost catching him at the end . Still ran a 14.7 on that one though.

Overall very happy with the 00vi mod, i dropped 4 tenths with it and picked up a great trap speed.

Sounds like you need to go back on a day where the track is a little better (or is it like that all the time?). Good times for street tires, but I'm thinking with a little practice and slightly better surface conditions you could do even better.

Good show TomV - I think there's still lots of potential there yet!

Thanks guys. It was my first trip there this year, it seemed like there was a lot of rubber on the launch pad... probably great if you have slicks but not so good for street tire cheapos like me. I'm generally more inclined to add more power/less weight than invest in traction, and just be happy with my trap speed and street performance since i so seldom have the time to get to the track. I really wish i could get an extended rev limit though, i still got great gains with the vi but i can tell i'm leaving a ton on the table shifting in the meat of the powerband like this.

NED usually sucks on street nights. I couldnt hook for beans last time out, 2.4xx 60' and 15.2 with a 95 trap. Your car has a bunch left in it, different tires will help. But I know what you mean about buying track tires. Id rather put the money else where since I dont go to the track much anymore. Nice times, maybe Ill see you there in the future. i need to get my SER out there, and really want to make it before the end of this season.

Thanks all for the encouragement. Krismax I did discover LVD as my next closest drag strip, about 2 hours away from me. I'm definitely going to give LVD a try next year, with traffic i'm 2 hours to NED anyway lately. Yeah I was pretty happy with the .4 but even happier with 4.5 mph gain. I noticed one of my slips, i was at 75.88 at the 1/8th, but screwed up the 3-4 shift and only trapped 93.7. And my first run netted my 2.28 60', if only i could have combined the best elements from all my runs, ah well its always that way i guess.

Hehe, you figured me out... I'm going to run them on the street and put the sawblades up for sale. I still need to locate 2 more though. I'm going down my list and trying to figure out best ET/$$ for mods I can actually afford, and inexpensive rims are at the top of my list, plus i'm not too worried about looks so running a 15" rim on the street doesnt bother me.

Hey when i come down for the rims we should give rides, i've never been in a MEVI car.
