Wrong plugs CAN cause CEL...
Wrong plugs CAN cause CEL...
Changed my plugs from PFR5G-11 to the coppers BKR5E-11 and now after 150 miles I've had 3 CEL P-0430:
P0430 Possible Causes:
Three way catalyst (Manifold)
Exhaust tube
Intake air leaks
Injectors
Injector leaks
Spark plug
Improper ignition timing
Cheapest route now is to change plugs back to stock and see if code goes away.
Just wanted to give fair warnings to those thinking about using different plugs... Any comments?

Ya in these engines since spark plugs are not that easy to change why would you put in coppers? On my old car I put in coppers because it literally took me 5 minutes to change all four plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I would stick with platinums or go to iridiums.

Is there any evidence of this. i have heard both arguements and in my experience iridium is better. Generally, the important thing is to stay with the same manufacturer to get the same resistance and gapping voltage, at least from a theoretical standpoint.
I use Coppers on both my VQ30 and VQ35. It's NOT your plugs.
What that is stating is that one possible cause is your plugs being bad (old), not the fact that a different mat'l type was used. In fact those(BKR5E-11) are stock replacements.

Well... you could (and actually maybe you are) BUT I have to mention this: RIGHT after I changed the plugs, the first 70 miles, I got a CEL. I cleared thinking it could be a mistake, and after another 50 miles I got another CEL. Cleared it again and it came back AGAIN.
Now I have 330 miles (1st tank after changing the plugs) and 3 CEL's for the same problem.
What would you conclude? That mysteriously one injector went bad or a O2 or whatever RIGHT after chanign the plugs, or you first going to blame the ONLY thing that changed in the car?
This saturday i'll buy the plat plugs and put them in the car, and I'll run another gas tank. It is the cheapest and most reasonable thing to do in my view: Occam's razor at its best!!
Ohh well... lets see...

i did the same thing kinda... put some plugs in that were the double plats that i removed and the car hated them.. and just didnt run right so i had to go spend the extra $$ and get the ones i took out.. in the end it ran great...i say go get the double plats and go from there
Put in your old plugs, get the codes erased. See what happens then..Not to flame, but there have been a lot of discussion about plugs. 00maxse started a thread and there is ton of info there.
I switched her to iridiums and had problems. Stick with stock and you should be fine. Why did you switch to coppers?
