Differences between the Toyo Proxes 4 and the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S
Differences between the Toyo Proxes 4 and the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S
The toyo has a 300 treadwear rating and the Pirelli has a 400. Both are W rated. Anyone have experience with either or BOTH of these tires? I'd like your thoughts if you have.
I've had the M+S and are currently on the 4's, i liked the M+S but love the 4's. The Proxes has better traction--especially in wet conditions, less road noise and much deeper tread depth. So far the Proxes are also holding up better than my old M+S'. Treadwear ratings really are only good when comparing between tires from the same manufacturer.

I can agree, though, that the Toyos grip very well, especially in the rain.

In my opinion, having used both tires, the sidewall stiffness--or lack thereof--is pretty similar, however to the credit of both i'm comparing 235/45 M+S with 245/45 Proxes 4's.

in my experience pirellis bubble too quik the toyos is what most of my rim shop sells & recomend hands down it was NO#1 for cornering in Consumers Report for like 2 or 3 years . Oh god the handle is insane with a set of T1-s
or the newer model R1s

I'm currently running Proxy's 235/35/19. They've met the expectations for what they are. I've put around 10k on them, and now there is more noticable tire noise. This should be expected since they have an aggressive tread which fall in the catagory of an All Season tire. Other than that these are an excellent tire. I'll have give it hands down to Toyo.
I originally went from my stock Potenza RE90s(?) to the Proxes4s and it was a HUGE difference. The Toyo's handled so much better. I'm about to go to some Nexens as soon as I get them installed but I really loved the Toyo's.
FWIW, I have -0- needs for anything-Pirelli so buying a tire that was $30+/tire is a big negative.

I might have to take back some of what I said about the Proxes 4's sidewalls, because it seems their sidewall stiffness depends GREATLY on size. If you get it in a 40 series size (e.g. 245/40/18), the sidewall is more than firm enough. The 45 series tires seem to have a small section of the sidewall that is a little softer, but they're still fine. The 50 series sidewalls are total mush -- as in, it honestly feels like rubber without any reinforcement -- and it seems that anything above that isn't much better.
It makes sense when I think about it... You obviously need a lot of reinforcement on a low-profile tire, but someone who is going for a higher profile (50 series and up) probably does not have handling as a high priority, so it'd be better to go with a softer sidewall for a smoother ride.
I should also add that the Proxes 4s will totally murder the Pirellis in snow.

P4 are like double mint (after half hour loose flavor but still gets job done)

I'm assuming you meant T1-R. If that's the case... the T1-R is better than the T1-S, and both are better than the Proxes 4 on dry and wet roads. In the winter, the Proxes 4 is great and the T1-S and T1-R are useless. Makes sense, since the Proxes 4 is an all-season tire, whereas the T1-S and T1-R are summer tires.
Tons of cars come from the factory with Pirellis. Virtually none come with Toyos.
Also, Toyo's biggest products are the Proxes 4, T1-S, T1-R, and RA-1, mostly in low-profile sizes. Those are all small-market tires, and whereas most people will not notice the extra performance they will definitely notice the faster wear. Pirelli's biggest products are the P6 Four Seasons, P-Zero Rosso, and P-Zero Corsa, in sizes that most cars come with. Those tires come on a LOT of cars, and they work well on a lot of cars as well (especially the P6 Four Seasons).

Over time, the P-Zero Nero M+S loses its tread features until all that's left are the radial grooves. The Proxes 4, on the other hand, keeps its tread pattern until it's totally bald. It won't necessarily last any longer, but it's better if you're concerned about wear because it retains more of its performance as it wears down.
As far as how many miles you can expect... I'm pretty harsh on my tires and I got something like 20k out of my Proxes 4s. FWIW.
