Brakes were quiet, replaced rotors, now squeaking..

Hmmph. Replaced some semi-warped rotors rather than getting them turned. Got Wearever front rotors, already crosshatched from the box. Cleaned them up with brake cleaner, did the install, all in all 45 minutes or so. Pads are Raybestos Quietstop ceramic, about 30k on them, with older Raymold rotors, changed at the same time (30k ago).

Now, went out, did the bedding process with the firm stops, spaced apart , etc.. After about 15 miles or so I start getting a long squeeeeeeek at about 30-25mph during braking, it goes away before the car stops.

Since it all was silent before I swapped the rotors, is it possible that some brands/types of rotors are more prone to squeaking/squealing intermittently?

Just curious as to your ideas. thanks

It's usually good practice to replace pads with rotors. Did you use anti squeal grease when reinstalling the pads?

no I did'nt. The pads have a permanently attached anti-vibe plate on the back, but what puzzles me is that the only variable is the rotors. I noticed a VERY heavy crosshatch pattern on the surfaces, versus most rotors which are very smooth.

I presume I will probably hear about buying the cheap chinese junk versus USA brands, but if that's the case, then so be it I guess. I was going to get the Raybestos PG Plus for about $12 more per rotor, nice smooth surface.. Damn. Just another I guess.

Even with the plate, I still grease em up good.

Your pads "wear" to the rotors....so even though they are relatively new...they have been formed to the warped roters.....this could account to some of the noise. Its allways a good idea that while you are doing that sort of a brake job to remove the pad spray or apply some sort of anti squeal grease to the back of the pad. If your new pads are making the pad slide slightly within the caliper because they are formed to the old rotors, that would account for some of the noise.

i suggest axis metalmasters or ultimates....they really do help alot especially with brake fade, and improved stopping distance. think about it, the pads are the only part that actually touches the rotor to create friction and slow the car. cheaper pads will fail at a lower tempature than the better pads. cheap pads = not so good performance, quality pads = improved braking.

I purchased a set of $20 pads from autozone....crazy noise and they sucked at braking performance too...i returned them right away, and spent 20 more bucks on the metalmasters. I learned my lesson on trying to save a buck on brake pads.
