Bought A 99 SE

Hey All-

Yesterday I bought a 99 SE Automatic. One question though.
The preveious owner used 87 octane gasoline. I know our cars' take advatage of 93 octane due to the compression. Will I have to disconnect the battery after putting in 93 octane for the ecu to reset. Or will the car advance the timing accrdingly itself?

Thanks

car should advance the timing itself. Nissan blessed us with the wonderful invention of the knock sensor for our cars. it automatically advances or retards the timing upon initial spark to reduce the chance of detonation. Long story short, GAS N GO.

what i'm planning to do with the next fill up is go 93 as well, do i need to allow my gas tank (with is filled with 87) to drain till the lights on? i know its not recommended that you let the car run on nearly empty but i'm having a serious issue with mixing old 87 + 93. any suggestions?

edit, im also planning on running some fuel injector cleaner in there as well.

mixing 87 and 93 isn't going to hurt anything. You're just going to have mixed octanes for a while.

yeah, actually mid-grade gas is a mixture of regular and premium gas, just in different ratios. So in effect, you'll be running mid-grade for a while, unless you just happen to dilute the **** out of it by running the tank low on 87 and then filling it up with 92 or 93. No matter what though, the maxima is a smarty: it can figure out what it needs to do operations-wise given a certain grade of gas. Go forth without paranoia, you and your car will be ok

fill up with 93' and go as previously stated and check for knock sensor failure. knock sensor failure will retard the timing and would have affect on mpg and hp loss. ive ran a full tank of 89 through mine one time and noticed that i didnt go quite as long before next fill up. or maybe i drove harder?
