Right now i have:
CDT EF-61 6.5" components:

These have a tweeter upgrade to a 1'' TW-25 silk: http://www.cdtaudio.com/SilkSoftDomeTweet.htm
An upgraded x-over to a SatNet 560i: http://www.cdtaudio.com/satnet456-642.htm
But my brother has some Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6.5 speakers which are a few years old...

I'll be throwing around 150rms@4 to each set...

from my experience the boston pro's need a good amount of prepping when installed, the tweeter can be pretty harsh. but once thats set you should be fine. The cdt's can be known to sound a bit muffeled for mid's
i'd just give the boston's a try

The Bostons Need alot of power to get them really going.I would Step up your power substantially before purchasing.
I cant make a recommendation here as I would appear biased. Although Im sure many will chime in.

how much are you looking to spend? i'd vote rainbow SLC as many others will, or if you can spring for them, rainbow Germaniums. im certain you'll be plenty satisfied.
You can get either from big papa don who posted above me.

i'm not going to upgrade to a better speaker i know don is the god and if i was buying new i'd goto him
150rms isn't enough for the pro 6.5 bostons? i'm running a kenwood 4 channel bridged and it says it gives out 180rmsx2@4 but i don't believe it so i say it's really 150...
i was only thinking of switching to see which would sound better i have no desire to upgrade my system unless a more powerful amp would really make those boston's shine.

i can't find the speakers i have online...this is my problem...i get 130rms or 400rms. i don't know which to believe all i know is the box says Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6.5 and i think they are about 3 years old...my friend have BA 60 series which handle 150wRMS@4 and i would assume mine are better because they are the pro series, at least one step above, and he has the old base model...but 400wRMS is just silly...i mean if they could handle it i would throw it at them but...thats alot of power...
so what would be better if they were powered correctly?
the CDTs or the Bostons?
only reason i am hesitant to replace the CDTs is because of the upgraded xover and tweeter. without those i would upgrade right away...but those upgrades are not cheap...
edit: i can have the bostons for free but is it worth the hassle installing them for no diffence in sound? do they really need more then 150rms? can anyone give me a link to the speakers/specs that i actually have?

I was (and still am) a fan of Boston's products. They sound very nice given sufficient power. Tweet placement on the Bostons is highly important IMO, because if they are fired directly or too close at the driver...it may sound a tad harsh. But overall they're excellent drivers and sounds very warm and balanced.
Again, 150 watts will be fine for them. I was feeding my SL65s 100 per side and they got plenty loud. They were doing the front stage duty in my old car. I still have them in my 6th gen, but they're in the back supplying rear fill.

Are you really going to notice a difference in these two? I think they might have a slight difference, nothing really noticeable.
I would just test them out and choose the one you like the most with the type of music you listen to.

mounting the tweeters is what is stopping me. i find it a hassle to do...and if it is going to sound close i'm not going through the hassle. what i think i'll do is deaden my doors and when i do that throw in the bostons.
i was hoping someone would say the boston's would blow the CDTs out of the water thats all. and the only reason i like my CDTs is because of the upgraded tweeter and xover. but i wonder how much those really matter. they sure are expensive from cdt...

The problem is, they may sound better to one of us, but to you they may not. It's impossible to judge until you personally hear them. Didn't you hear them when they were installed in your brothers car?
The older Pro's, which are the ones that I beleive your referring to got discontinued and became the Z6 line($450 and up on Ebay). If you dont want the Pro's I'll be willing to buy them from you. That was prolly the nicest comp set I ever heard. The tweet is a lil harsh but can be adjusted and your doors must be deadened to get decent mid-bass out of them. I might be wrong, but I believe that they're 3 ohm. Any amp rated at 200-250 at 4 ohm should be sufficent. I personally think they're a step above the CDT's. However, SQ is subjective so test em out and if you dont like them, gimme me a shout.
