Should I add the SE spoiler?

Hey, forgive me if this seems like a dumb question, but i dont know much at all about cars, let alone aerodynamics and all that other BS.

But anyway, I have a GLE and would really love to add some kinda style to it as it kinda resembes an old person's car a bit too much for my likings. LoL

Anyway, I wanted to add a spoiler, but I dont like those big ole ugly pointless wings people put on their cars trying to be cool but in reality it just looks ugly and does absolutely nothing for your car unless you are a racer and happen to do over 200mph every day lol..
But yea, I really like the look of the standard SE spoiler on the 2002's. But, some people told me since the GLE doesnt come stock with it, adding the spoiler might actually make me lose gas mileage etc, etc. Is that true? Cause I see a lot of GLE's with the spoiler and I cant imagine it has all that big of an affect on my mileage and whatnot. Also, what is a guesstimate price for a job like that? If its gonna be over $300 I'm not sure its really worth it..

Also, I dont know about tints and all that, but Id really like to add some to my windows. I have the black/black 2002 GLE. What kinda tint you think would look best? Just regular black shaded or that frosty kind or are there anymore styles.
Does anyone have pics they can add to the thread so I can see some options??

THANKS to everyone in advance. Muahhhhhhhh

First place to look about what tints look best for your application is to browse through the Members Rides forum.

As for the spoiler, I don't see any effect on mileage. Just because the car didn't come stock with an OEM spoiler doesn't mean it will "lose" mileage. Pricing will vary as to which shop you're going to get it done. Best way is to browse around the area and get a quote.

lol we all have our preferances, what I think looks like good tint may not be what you want, but in general I think the darker the better. I always go for as dark as possible but not to the point where its too hard to look out of.

As far as a spoiler, man I want to get rid of my spoiler, I don't like how it curles forward, and yes anyone without a spoiler is driving a gramas car. haha, but no I just dont like the style, I would suggest a aftermarket spoiler of your choice that isn't so "ricey" there are many options that look good and arn't giant wings. good luck

ok yes get a spoiler
no its will no affect gas mileage or at least theres no way you will notice
buy one off ebay and get it painted for $100
if you know how to wire and drill holes then you can do the rest yourself

as for tints... since your in ct we can only go as low as 35%
so keep that in mind if you dont want trouble fom **** cops
if you go to a shop they have more then enough smaple to help to decide what shade you want
this question should be answered by you since YOU should be the one that thinks it looks best
good luck!

I purchased my 02 GLE without a spolier. I eventually purchased a spoiler from a reputable seller on Ebay and added 30% tint. IMO, I think it looks much better now.

As for mpg, I don't think there is any difference.

install the spoiler yourself, my brother bought a painted one on ebay, and did it in like half an hour, drilled some holes in the trunk, and thats it.

the spoiler on the max is for aesthetic purposes unless u plan on goin 100mph+

if anything, it will decrease mpg

imo spoilerless look is better - more unique and clean
there are quite a few ppl on the org who went through a lot of trouble to get it.

ur best bet is to buy a trunk with that comes with the spoiler. doing it yourself is going to be a big project

This I agree with.

If you have a drill, it's not a big project.
spoilerless is imho
Some people like it, that's fine for them. I just think it's ugly, not unique I've seen plenty, and definitely not clean. This has been my feeling since the 3rd gen.

Well, that is the only reason why I'm even considering getting the spoiler...for aesthetic purposes lol.
Did you read my original post? I wanted to add something to my GLE..and I also mentioned how someone told me it would decrease mileage (if anything at all). That was my original question and reason(s) for posting..

But yea, in any case- I have to disagree with you on the spoilerless look being better. IMO it looks too plain which (to me) equals boring. Not to mention that my 64yr old boss sings its praises everyday and tells me I'm crazy for wanting to add anything to it. He actually almost worded it the same as you...calling it "clean". But u know, opinions are like a$$holes, everyone's got one ya know?!?

Thanks for the post though. Also, I don't think I'll be doing any work, especially body work myself. I'm a 21 y/o female and dont know SHIZZZ when it comes to cars, etc. haha Ill leave it to the experts ;-P

and p.s. just wanted to thank everyone for their replies.

I'm an existing member of the org, but haven't been on in quite sometime, and i'm a complete newbie to the 5th genners (which would explain the name LMarie91Maxima) Ha.. So anyway, thanks for reminding me how awesome this site can be!!!

Well there's not much to say Now, i think everything has been answered for you already. I'll say go with the spoiler it would give it a more aggresive Look...AS for the tints to me the darker the better, but you have the final word on how light or dark you want your tints to be....Good luck

we all have different tastes, i just finished up my spoiler-spoilerness "conversion" i prefer it without, fits my style. i thought the stock spoiler made my car go "hey i'm trying to be sporty over here" looks classier without imo.

if ur looking for a black one ive got my whole stock trunk with spoiler just sitting around. let me know

I stay go with a G35 sedan Spoiler!!!!!!! those look way better and only 2 or 3 5th gen maxs have them....if i could do it over id do that instead....also get tint. 35% or 25% would be good....coming from a fellow black max owner, i have the platinum tint, it looks ok, not super reflective during the day, has a different color to it, but i can really see well at night, which is what i wanted...just wished it was a darker black, but we cant get the best of both worlds....good luck!

ALSO: i bought a Ebay spoiler from like a spoilerdept 2-3 years ago...it started to chip about 4 months ago and looks kinda bad now...just a warning.

Absolutely on the G35 spoiler!!!! definately different and there aren't a whole lot of Max's out there with em on.

As far as tint, I have 20% on the back and my sunroof and 35% on the 4 doors...looks nice but not too dark.

It's great having a female on here...trying to get my woman to log onto the 6th gen forums!

This should be a 1 reply thread...

Get the factory SE spoiler, the Maxima looks without one.

Even better, the G35 sedan spoliers fit and look GREAT on the car.

I am looking to do this very same mod with my '02 GLE and already have a spoiler attached to the trunk. Does anyone know how to remove the spoiler? There are three plastic trim pieces that attach the spoiler to the trunk, in addition to the three small studs that also secure the two pieces together. How do you remove the plastic pieces as two of them are hardly accessible at all, did you snap them off and replace them, or some other method?

Anyone have pics of the G35 spoiler on a Maxima? Also interested in that mod.
TIA

I love that car, but I have always thought; "damn all it needs is a spoiler". I think that car would look perfect with the G35 spoiler.

I like the 5th gen. Maximas without a spoiler better. If you do decide to get a spoiler, be different and get a G35 sedan spoiler.

No spoiler

IMO w/o spoiler the max looks too much like an "Old man" car
But some have pulled it off nicely as seen above. I think if you have nice wheels, lip kit, dropped then it will look ok, if stock you need the spoiler to give it more of a sporty look.

But that spoiler is standard on a SE...you can't get one without it unless it was a GXE or a GLE.

whazzzzuup your car looks amazing? I can't believe the shine on that paint, what did you use on it?
It would still look better with the spoiler IMO but to each his own.

Without a low drop and/or body kit, spoiler is a must. IMO (for looks, obviously)
