Cleaning Your Carpet & Floor Mats

Hey guys, my carpet inside my Max is pretty dirty. Unfortunately I do not have black carpet, its a tan color.

So the floor mats and carpet have stains.... I went to a few local car washes and they said I would need to pay for a car wash in order for me to received the option of washing my carpets..... WTF...........

No one washes my car but me.... soooooooo I guess i will have to wash my carpets now....

Should i rent a carpet cleaner or use a brush and soap????? If so, is there a special cleaner for automobile carpets?????

What do you guys use???

For the floormats, remove them from your car and use some stain remover with water and a stiff brush to loosen up any major stains. Then take a power washer to the mats to get out the remaining dirt/stains.

For the carpet use oxyclean or carpet cleaner spray and a towel. Make sure you don't rub at the carpet, dab at it so it does not pill up.

I know this will sound nuts, but I promise, it worked for me, on my 01 vette.

Get a product called 'Urine Out'. It is intended for pets, but it works wonders on carpets. As does Woolite with Oxyclean. I have kids and critters and can attest to these goodies.

We spilled soda in the Vette and the only thing I had on hand was the urine out stuff. It leaves nor residue and no ring, nor any odor!

For super small stuff, get the Tide To Go Pen. That thing is really good for headliners also. It dries, no need to have an extra towel on hand!

you don't really need to go out and buy any products... just use some soapy water and scrub them with a brush. they will not go pilly btw.. it's best if you have a power washer cause that really gets the dirt out, if not, just spray it hard with the hose. Then shop vac the water out and let try for a bit. Unless you have oil or other really bad stains, don't waste your money on products. Even if you do, just use a regular solvent and it'll lift out the bad stains.

All you need is a little steam cleaner and lots of paper towels. I use it on mine and they always get the stain out using just water.

Oh you have tan? I have frost in my car so I bought black mats from courtesy nissan, expensive, but it looks cool. I still got a set of frost mats in my basement that are in new condition. The black shows salt pretty bad in the winter but it cleans up nicely.

I use Tuff Stuff to spot clean my carpet. Spray on, let it foam a few seconds, then dab with a microfiber towel.

MEguires has a really good carpet cleaner. I cleaned out 2 year old Coca-cola stains in just seconds.

Look for a Purple Meguires bottle. Works wonders.

After a thorough cleaning and drying. Get some Scotch Guard for carpets. Or better yet, use it when your car/floor mats are still brand new.

Clean both the floor and mats as well as you can with a brush and good carpet cleaner/shampoo, like Meguires. Then, for the mats, throw the mats into the washing machine to get them superclean (if they are old or unraveling skip this step as they can disintegrate if poorly made aftermarket). If your carpet is still looking dingy, either take it to a reputable upolstery shop and have them professionally clean it, or borrow (or rent) a steam cleaner (or a wet-shop vac). Finally, finish off this hard work with a good fabric protectant to make the job easier in the future.

when i first got my car, the floormats were nasty. tan carpet but had black (oil?) huge spots. i used carpet cleaner and a brush but had no real results. stuck the carpets in the hot wash of a washer after throwing some tide on the spots. came out beautiful. use your household washer, youll be amazed.\

im investing in a heavy duty steam cleaner, roughly $100 on amazon. useful to have one IMO. wheels, engine bay, interior, and non car stuff thing as well

I've always used the household steam cleaner and things came out nice and dandy.

On a completely unrelated note to the thread creator, I was going to get plates that read "213374U" when I got my car (before visiting these forums). I find it funny that others had the same idea.

carpet cleaner from turtlewax. works good, but it is hard work and doesn't seem to stay clean for very long.

Can you really throw the '04 mats in the washer without damaging them?

I never thought about doing that, but I suppose that would work just fine. Might be loud in the spin cycle though!

Check out autopia.org. This is a car detailing forum where guys take the dirtiest cars and make them look better than new. I tried a mix of oxyclean/simplegreen/water from there that took out some HEAVY stains.

He is right. A front loader works best anyway. Use 2 quarters to dry the mats. Thats all you need. As for the stains I use Armour All All Purpose cleaner.

I tried washing my mats in the washer before... didn't go smoothly kept rumbling around... I got rid of them and got some rubber mats instead... I don't take too much care of the carpet though...I'll vaccum it and maybe every now and then do a little scrub but usually have the mats on top so you can't really see the carpet
