Pull the head outwards, put the shaft in, then pop the head back in.

(that sounds really dirty)

do you need to lubricate them?

but that is the way to do it. pop the head out like you did when they were removed

i usually just use a flathead screwdriver to pop the head out and then I insert it holding the outer edges (not pushing on the head) then the head easily pops in and locks the pop tab into place.

OT: Jason, your car is looking really nice! definitely like those z wheels

Yeah, but they can be pretty fraglie. I broke part of the head of 3-4 of them last time I was doing my fogs.

They're really not if you have the right tool and just the slightest bit of finesse.

i have no finnesse or tools

i don't know if i can get the head/shaft to pull out, i pried them out with a screw driver, it seems stuck

i think i'll just yank them out and put in new ones that haven't been expanded yet

finally got to see them last night, all looks pretty cool

You need a smaller-than-normal size screwdriver. There's no reason the head should not pull out. It's plastic, it's not like they rust/seize or anything.
