TireRack has many of their Continental tires on special pricing. I just picked up 4 ContiExtremeContact in 235/40/18 for $125. They're normally $140+

I have heard bad things about those, did ur kumhos give up on u? I thinking about taking the cheap way out and going with nexens myself

 

What have you heard bad about them? The sidewall is a bit soft, but running higher pressures helps big time... Over a GREAT tire, for the money, they are really hard to beat.

 

They are a great tire, I would have got them if they were that price when I got my tires.

 

They didn't give up. They just got worn down...that's what tires do

 

quick question do these guys give warranties on their products?
ex. If a tire blows can you send it back for a free replacement cuz up here in NY potholes get serious, and they eat low profiles daily

The ContiExtremeContacts will have better snow traction for sure.

From what I can gather, in a 50-series or higher size, the Contis will also have a firmer sidewall; in a 45-series or lower size, the Toyos will have a firmer sidewall.

The Contis are rated for higher treadwear.

The Toyos have a better track record for quality (durability, how well they maintain balance, etc.).

Dry/wet performance is a tough call. It seems that no one has done a direct comparison between these two tires, so it's hard to tell which one will be better in this department. My instinct is that the Proxes 4s will have the edge since they have bigger tread blocks and use a similar tread compound to that in the Proxes T1-S.

These tires are quiet and comfortable (and good in rain and supposedly snow)... not as much grip as my old Kuhmo 712... but now i'm running them at about 45psi so that helps.

 

Are you ****ing serious? What size are you running? That's about the maximum pressure you can put into the tires.

The long time owner of the tire shop i usually buy from runs in the 50s on his pickup.. LOL. I commented on how "soft" the tires were and he suggested it. I've been running on that pressure for like 5 months now.

Maximum rated pressure for that tire in that size is 44 psi...

50 psi is not unusual for a truck tire. Many of them will run around 80 psi. But they're made for that. Car tires aren't..

Bumping this. I've had the tires on for about a week. Great traction in wet or dry, warm or cold. (Better wet traction than my previous ASX's)

I'm running 235 on a 7.5 rim. There is no excessive "bubbling" outwards of the sidewall but I do notice the sidewall is a bit soft, as if the tire is rolling slightly on the rim when I make a quick turn or lane change. It's noticeable more than my previous Kumho ASX's, which seemed to have a more "vertical" sidewall, even though the width and profile were the same.
