stock size is 215-55-16, the wheel gap is still pretty big for me being on a progress drop. thinking maybe it's the tire size that i can change to alter it...any sizes that can give me a narrower sidewall while keeping similar width?

If you are seeing too much wheel gap with a 55-series then it will only get worse going with a lower series.

You need to go with larger diameter rims in order to get rid of the wheel-gap...but even then it isn't that noticeable of a change.
More aggressive springs/coilovers would make a more noticeable change.
