replacing tranny at 147k. makes a difference?

arite. i feel like my tranny on my 1995 maxima is just starting to go downhill. i'm the type of person that like to fix things and replace them before they completely die. so my question is: will i notice a difference replacing my stock 1995 tranny with 147k miles on it with a 1995 newly rebuilt tranny with VLSD? like will i notice a big difference in the way that the tranny will pull harder and rev-up faster and give the car more of a sturdy feeling under WOT, etc? or is it not worth it to replace tranny until its REALLY screwin up. basically, will it improve overall performance of the car to take a working tranny and replace it with a much newer working tranny with VLSD? thanks guys

So reading this, it seems you're just talking about going from an open diff to LSD. Yes, you will notice a significant difference anytime a wheel spins. I get a lot of single wheel spin when I give throttle with the wheels turned - that will get a lot better. Plus less torque steer overall. But it will not pull harder - the change in diff does nothing to improve power.

You should notice very little difference because of the rebuild, if you current tranny has no bad symptoms. This one probably has pretty significant wear, unless you recently drained the oil and found it to be fairly clean. Very few truly 'good' after 147k. So your plan is quite sensible overall.

perfect. that's what i wanted to know. basically, i don't know if my tranny is truly "good." it seems to shift hard sometimes and get confused about which gear to stay in occasionally. but i didn't know if that was a common symptom of trannys or if it's just cause mine is old. so i probably will notice a decent difference just because i'm used to driving with a tranny thats not so good anymore even though it's not really "bad".... right?

Do you currently have an auto or manual?
