New Car Knocking on Startup!

Since it wont let me search I have to start a new topic.

My 02 3 week old maxima knocks on cold startups for about 1-2 seconds. It sounds just like a plain old engine knock to me. Usually it makes about 2 knocks and then goes away and doesnt come back untill the next startup. Its pretty scary to me cause the only warranty I have is the 2 monther that the used car place gave me. Im not really sure if the car is still covered under powertrain warranty. The car does not knock under any other driving conditions at all. It runs perfect. Is this something that goes away with oil pressure? Is it the waterpump? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Its an 02 with just about 56,000 miles and its in perfect condition.

Sounds like a knock to me. nothing like a soda can sound at all. Like on old cars that knock when u shut them off, that sound exactly for about 1-2 seconds, then goes away and never comes back untill the next cold startup or when U just wait a while.

Its very possible what u're hearing is the timing chain rattling first thing in the morning. Its quite common. Lasts for about a sec. then goes away. I think there is a TSB for this, my understanding is that this is not a harmful condition.

I have the same thing happen with mine, but only when I park on a slant so the front end is higher than the back end. I also have 56,000 on mine. Think I might go get my 60k service before 60k warranty is up. how convenient the dealers recommend a 60k service....right when the powertrain warranty ends..
