Possible Fix For Evap Valve!!!
Possible Fix For Evap Valve!!!
I have had a consistant evap code 1445 on my 99 max lately. So a couple of days ago I removed my evap valve from under my driver side rear. Luckily hte bolts didn't break off when i took it off (YAY). I noticed that there was alot of crud in it and cleaned it out with some PB Blaster. once it was dried and clean. I then sprayed some white lithium grease inside( normally used for door hinges and stuff, because it doesn't wash off that easy and really likes to stick). So i was looking inside of hte valve and noticed that its just a single pole solenoid, meaning that it only pushes in one way, down. I was guessing that the voltage was getting weak or the solenoid was getting bad. Tested the voltage and it was right on the marks from my FSM.
So i got to thinking, what if this valve had a spring return for when the power is not on the valve(IE when the car is off, its always got voltage to the solenoid when the ignition is on). I went to a hardware store and found a spring that i could compress and squeeze into the valve to help push the valve closed again. SUCCESS it work. I haven't had a EVAP code come back on ever since i did this. Just thought i would let you guys know what I did.
BTW don't get an extremely strong pin, as i don't think that solenoid is the strongest thing in the world. Something about twice the strength as a normal retractable pen should work, and about twice the size of it too.
Enjoy

i wanna know to, my evap solenoid is right at the top of the intake manifold or somewhere around there, opened it the other day and gave it a whole lot of WD-40 and the code never came back....
I had CEL on for Evaporative Canister Vent Control Valve and Evap System.
I put some wd40 inside the vent control valve but it didn't help.
But lately Rear O2 sensor triggered the cel and after I replaced the sensor and recet the ecu I don't have any codes for 3 weeks already.
