Will my alt last another day?

Hey guys. I took my car to advance today, and got my alternator tested. It was bad, really bad. Only pushing 2-3 amps...Anyway, both my parents work, and I drive myself to school every day and I really need to know if my car will last another 10 miles or so without taking a crap on me. It doesnt have any rougher starts than usual, and my power to my stereo and other things from what I have noticed has not faded. I dont need to drive with my lights or stereo, I can go without using any excess electronics...I am taking it tomorrow afternoon to get the alt replaced, but I need to get to school, so I am wondering if you guys think it will last one more day. Thanks guys!

That's critical, unless you have a test, I say skip school and get it replaced ASAP. You're only 16, one day missed is nothing, but DAYS without a car is

Anyway, she doesnt have a car, and well I guess I am going to see if she can get another ride, and I wil have my dad take me. Oh, and my parents are like psycho about be skipping school, I doubt they would ever let me for that...thanks for the info!

All i can say is that if the alternator is bad...it can crap out on you anytime and drain your battery and bam, your car is dead. Get it replaced asap! dont want to get stuck on the road like i did on the freeway once.... that was not pretty!

jsut drive it. worst thing that can happen? your car craps out on you and you get to ditch school spend the day with that chick. but get it replaced fast..

but yeah. if you dont got the nuts to try that..then get it fixed asap. my alternator died on my G20 once, showed signs of slow starts for a week, it crapped out on me on hte 605 at 5pm. i caused a nice traffic jam.

Your education will take you much further in life then some crappy 10 yr old car. You should focus on finding another way to school. Taxi, bus, or get a ride from a friend. If you parents are serious about you attending ask them for a ride. How about your wanna be girl friend how would she get to school without you?
I can't believe someone would consider skipping school to take care of a maxima. Remember your education can never be taken away from you unlike your car.

No, I am not. I am just 16 years old as a senior, and well its kinda hard to get a 17-18 year old to go out with me...since I really dont hang out with any of the underclassmen.

Haha, thanks for the wannabe girl friend joke... I probably wouldnt go out with her anyway, and shes out of my league, but shes freaking hot as heck. Anyway, back on topic.

I am getting a ride with a friend, I hope. I rarely miss school, and one day isnt that big 'o deal, but I just want to get this all resolved. But what would REALLY suck is if once I got home tomorrow after getting a ride, and I go to start the car and it doesnt start, or I am driving down ridgewood and it takes a crap on me...

Oh, and spending a whole day with her? That would be kinda nice...haha.

You will be fine. I made it 170 miles, twice (to and from chicago) on a failed/failing alternator, and one of those trips was at night so my headlights had to be on. I'm not saying you will make it that far, but a 10 mile trip to school will be no problem. When your alternator fails it just starts drawing the power that WOULD come from the alternator off of your battery, so as long as your battery is in decent shape you will be OK.

dude. This might be too late, but Drive your car to school and pickup the girl. Put the headlights on, play the radio, anything that will kill that alternator. Get stranded with her. Who cares its one day of school. Unless you're taking tests that day it doesn't matter at ALL. Trust me son. I had a 3.4 GPA in high school and I always skipped. Try to score.
