Any 5gen owner with only y-pipe and Cattman/HKS muffler?

I currently have a Cattman y-pipe and looking to get a Cattman or HKS muffler. I was wondering how it'll sound like and if anybody have this setup already.

I have the Cattman y-pipe & Cattman rear section. I feel it is a little on the loud side. It took a little while for me to get used to it. My car is an auto, so at first I thought that it made it sound like an older Chevy Lumina. Now, I like it. I dont think that its too much, but it is right at the line. If it was even one decible louder it would be too much. I'm pretty sure that there is some sound clips in the Header Sticky. I know that Frankencar used to make one that couldnt be beat. Meaning that it sounded very good, was stainless steel so it looked good, and was a good high flow design. They no longer are making products for our cars though, so you'll have to do like the rest of us & hope that someone will sell theirs and be the first one to jump on it.

hey man...meet up with KCMC82 (I think that's his name on here). He has the cattman ypipe and full catback. When i went to go hear it, it wasn't too bad. If you want to hear just my cattman rear section you're free to do that (probably closer for you too).

I had the Stillen Y-Pipe and an HKS rear section and it was too loud. Sounded like a 6 banger Chevy with a muffler. Lumina, yea souds like a lumina or an S10 Pickup. Absolutely terrible. Took off the Y-Pipe and left the HKS and it sounds fantastic. Regained some torque also. The Y-pipe sucks for city driving.

You will barely be able to tell the differance, as long as you dont touch the cat back.

I've got the cattman y and cattman rear section. It sounds pretty good, but I'm thinking on going back to the stock rear section since it is somewhat loud.

You'll lose a noticable amount of torque with the Y-Pipe. If you have an automatic, you'll come to hate the thing like I did. It's is louder and the gain is not worth it if you have an automatic. Besides isnt' the proper way to do an exhaust is to work your way from the rear of the car.

If you have a manual that may be a different story as you will be able to drive it at higher rpm's. It will also depend on what type of driving you do. A Y-pipe and city driving do not go together well.

Also, no check engine light here when the Y-Pipe was installed on the car.

I just passed NJ inspection with all my mods (full exhaust and y pipe) no problems. as far as sound is concerned, gene you know it sounds

get the full exhaust and get a 2002 rear muffler, should give you flow with not much extra sound.

wow... i would actually lose some torque if i add a y-pipe on with an intake? i never heard that before.. it's supposed to give you more torque.. thats what the numbers say anyway.. and city driving is mostly what i do too.. but as far as the rpms, i do take into like the 4-6,000 range pretty frequently.. interesting

Are you driving a manual or an automatic?

Lost torque??

I have a 2000 Maxima with a Stillen Intake, Cattman Y Pipe & Cattman Catback . As far as losing torque I would like some proof. I have the Stage 2 VB Mod done on my tranny but I dont think that plays any part. I will tell you either from a roll or from a stop other stock 5th Gen autos can not hang with me. The car breathes so much better now then before . I did feel a little torque missing after changing my intake but not after my Y-Pipe install. I would never go back to stock after having done this to my car 100% better this way.

No proof available at this time as I sold the Stillen Y-pipe. You may be able to pull better torque numbers with the Y-pipe but that's only when you floor it. For daily driving, you'll lose that around town punchiness that the stock setup gives you.

I did the Y-Pipe, Stillen intake and HKS rear section. The only thing that remains is the HKS rear section. Give it a shot with the Y-pipe. Most people like it. I didn't! I wanted a little more power and realized that I was not going to get it from modding the max without taking some of the luxuriousness out of the car.

Call Stillen and see what they say. They'll tell you that it isn't the best mod and that you should start at the rear section.
