shimming 350z thermostat

I searched for 350 z thermostat and found about 5 separate posts on the subject. A few people mention that they shimmed it to fit. Can anyone let me know how and what you used to do this? Thanks in advance.

the nismo thermostat is a direct bolt on for the fwd vq35. the only part that you will need is a new radiator hose from a 4th gen maxima.

Ok, I just got my 350z thermostat in the mail. Looks identical to the stock one. Why am I going to need to shim this? I wasn't expecting to get the housing and thermostat as one piece. Are the internals longer than stock and won't fit?

You may have misinterpreted the posts you've read. It will fit fine, shimming only lowers opening temp further.
