Power loss over 2500 rpm. Help!
Ok I don't know if this is going to sound familiar to anyone, but yesterday I noticed for the first time that my car began to stutter over 2500 rmp's. It has about 87000 miles on it now and I bought it new and never had this experience before. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Could it be a bad MAF? I decided to put the car in park and rev it slowly and at exactly 2500 rpm the rpm meter drops back and the sound ot the engine drops and raises and then drops again until I release the pedal so the rpms can fall below 2500. On the highway it runs fine but I have to limit my speed to 70 mph so that I don't get too close to 2500rpm's. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks in advance.
definitely maf. I had the same problem. Get the 2k3 maf sensor or get a 2k1 maf and install the temp sensor to save money. Do you have an aftermarket intake on your car? I did and I blew my 2k2 maf like 2 times, mad $. Went with 2k3 maf because stronger.

My car is an 03 and the 03 MAF's are much more expensive than the 00 and 01's. Stealership told me I had to buy the whole thing which is around $500. They said you can't buy the the part that just plugs in separately. And there is a no return policy since it is an electrical part of course. And after replacing it do I need to reset teh ECU? Or a battery disconnect overnight would be just as good?
You don't need to reset or reprogram anything. You can reset the ECU if you want, but it isn't necessary. Those details are in the stickies too. Disconnecting the battery won't do anything if you have a 2002-2003.
I think MAFs are to coupled with appropriate ECU firmware - changin one w/o the other MAY lead to subtle issues not otherwise noticeable.
Now if a real knowledgeable Nissan Tech (that we can trust) can confirm that replacing an 03 MAF with an 00-01 MAF will work in tandem with the 03 ECU program, I will buy that.
I went to the stealership fo "Idle Air relearn" and asked the Tech to upgrade the ECU - he said, the newer firmware works well with the replacement MAF (not the stock 03 MAF) and as my 03 Maxima has stock MAF, his recommendation was not to upgrade the ECU firmware. His positions was that you need to do both at the same time as the upgraded MAF requires a little bit different firmware for optimal performance.
Hope this makes some sense

i have the same problem as of now, but i have noticed that the power loss started from 5 rpms and after driving a week with it messed up it's now at 3.5rpms......i had reset my ecu and still no fix......sadly i have come to the conclusion that my maf is struggling for its last moments of breath.......i am ordering a new one from http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=22680-VQ30D which is pretty cheap.
