Is my auto tranny getting old?

Just turned 176K miles on my '96. I do a full flush every 40K or so with Mobil1 Synthetic. The old fluid is always nice & red. But lately it's taken to shifting late to 2nd when it's cold. Also, while it seems to shift fine under normal conditions; if I get on it a bit - very rare - (up to 4K rpms or so), it seems to shift too smooth...doesn't slip up to higher rpms, but doesn't shift to 3rd very crisply.

Is it just me, or is she starting to show signs of high miles? There seems to be a fine line between a smooth shift and slippage. I've read through all the posts...Seems like they run the gamut from just over 100K to well over 200K miles with no troubles.

Thoughts?

Mine has 170,000 and does everything perfect and I beat the hell out of it. I did just add a B&M supercooler, so I hope that helps prolong it a bit. I do plan on nitrious soon , but only at the track, so we'll see what happens???
