I was just wondering how would the Unorthodox Flywheel (or any lightened flywheel) hold up with the 3.5 swap?? My understanding is that the flywheel allows the rpm's to climb quicker...right?? So I would imagine if this is true, it would be really beneficial with the VIAS, not VVT <--(training myself...little inside joke i guess) allowing it to reach higher rpm's a lot quicker.

Anybody using a lightened flywheel on the swap??

I'm just trying to get whatever I need to get my car running strong and get it over with... I'm needing to replace my flywheel anyway.... I think it might be warped due to the mechanic who did my clutch about a yr ago not resurfacing it right.

 

i was planning on using the fidanza flywheel for the swap. and i think you're right. maybe someone will chime in, but i dont remember reading anybody doing using one.

 

I have a fidanza flywheel on my 3.5 swap. It hold up just fine, well at least up to the 395 wtq that I put through it

 

it should hold. remember to use the timing ring from the stock flywheel.

 

Get fidanza's flywheel, it comes with the timing ring welded on it. But make sure you get the flywheel for the 4th gens'. Our crank sensors dont' read the 5th gen ring gears.

 

Whether it will "hold" is not an issue. The only possible problem is drivability: a 3.5 swap revs pretty quickly with the stock 4th gen flywheel (which is already only 2/3 the weight of the stock 3.5 flywheel), so a lightweight 4th gen flywheel would make it rev up and down faster than you can blink. That can be tough to handle sometimes.

Of course, whether or not that's actually a problem for you depends on your preferences, your abilities, and the rest of your setup.

 

My timing ring had to be removed from the old flywheel and transferred over to the fidanza (4th gen). It bolts right in.

I have had no adverse drivability effect with my 4th Gen Fidanza on my VQ35. Drivability is just like the VQ30, except with increased torque and power

 

You have to be significantly more conscious of your shifts as the revs fall considerably faster than with the stock 4th gen. flywheel. If you're having a "high-energy" day, you'll love it. And if you're feeling lazy? Notsooomuch.

 

If thats the case, I'll make sure to stock up on cases and cases of Red Bull!

 

is it much lighter than the stock vq35 flywheeL? do you mean the 6speed flywheel or the altima flywheel.

 

IIRC the stock flywheel on the 5.5 gen and 6th gen Maximas is a dual-mass type and weighs ~31 lbs; I'm not sure if the Altimas' are different. The stock 4th gen Maxima flywheel is single-mass and weighs ~18 lbs. The UR flywheel is somewhere between 10 and 12 lbs, depending on whom you ask...
