retrofit...what do u guys think?

okay i did a very stupid thing in my futile attempt to get more light on the road. I first bought some over wattage bluish bulbs...they are HORRIBLE!! no light what so ever when raining...i think the blue tint gets absorbed by the water or something like that.

anyways i have now decided to go ahead with the retrofit route.

So far i have bought a set of projectors, balllasts, igniters, and bulbs off of a BMW 528i...E39 if I am not mistaken.

the plan is to retrofit these into a 1 piece blacked out cefiro headlight or into the stock headlights. What do you guys think? I really like the blacked out look but it kinda seems like a lot of black around the corner light. im a little hessitant since i have never seen the blacked out cefiros in person but then again i want to be unique.

but...i have an idea to add some variety to all the black in the corner lights of the cefiros. what if i were to mount some small halogen projectors as corner lights? amber ones. has anyone ever done this? and to mount it in such a way that it sort of sticks out with a tubular silver housing or maybe blacked out with a nice chrome bezel.

so this is the plan. let me know ur thoughts on this project.

well take some pics, i do konw what you are talking about but its too many mental pictures to consider.. how bout a conversion of some sort using the headlights off a 94ish infiniti, the one with the dual projectors. if you use those into the stock headlights you might have something going. and YES you do see less with the blue headlights since more light is reflected back to you. hence why foglights always tend to be amber. amber light is a lot more visible. btw black housing!! and do not go with any type of purplish HIDS, just as bad as blue bulbs

okay...i decided to go with the 1 piece cefiro black housing headlight. i am still debating whether i should do what i was planning for the corner lights...it seems like a lot of fabrication and more money for something so little. and i am definately staying away from any sort of colored light...from now on 4300k is what im gonna run!

MaxPaul...what did u mean about 94ish infiniti headlight? what car? dual projectors are interesting but seems like more unnecessary work.

I should be getting all the parts by next week friday so ill keep you guys up to date on all the happenings. Ill make sure to take a lot of pictures!

wish me luck!

lol, not so unique because i already did it. check my signature. you'll be doing single projector so it'll be mad easy. i used 7 series projectors for the low beam and accord projectors for the high beam, as well as custom angel eyes and 10000k hids. if you want to see some pics, check my last thread created. sorry i cant link you to it but im not a paying member and i cant search. but it was like 3 weeks ago or a month ago and the name was 'work in progress'. if i can assist u in any way, just lemme know. good luck with that.

wow...very nice work. i will definately be contacting you soon if i run into any trouble .

i do have a couple of questions for now...what projectors did you use for the corners? where did u buy them? and how big is the lense?

ok, i really dont know which corners you are talking about. im assuming you mean the projectors on the outside. those are bmw 7 series projectors, and they're around 2 3/4", not really sure. i bought them at the dealer.

no im talking about the lights on the corner of the headlight...the part housing the bulb on the far sides of the headlight. I am not talking about the dual projectors you have for low and high beam. I was under the impression that you used very small projectors for the corners also. This is the idea i mentioned in my first post. I want to try and attract more attention to the corner lights to help balance out the cross eyed look cefiros tend to have.

man, not to bag on ppl but dual projectors are ugly as hell IMO.. maybe, just maybe these new housing offer a way to make them look less clutered and more classy. But, we have to look at the other side, which is most likely not and you should just retrofit a projector into the stock housing or cefiro's. I hardly ever use the high-beam anyways. Then again, MaxGTR2000 made his duals look really good by spacing them out a bit.

Projectors in the corner clearence lights isnt a good idea. Having a simple bulb in there illuminates the housing, putting a projector there is going to cast a solid beam of light outward illuminating everything on the sides of you.
Might sound like a neat idea but its going to **** off anyone who is driving next to you.

MaXiMaGiRL,
Did you ever get a chance to post of pics of the beam patterns with the cutoff?
Also, were you able to get the halogen projectors wired and working?

oh no, that's some crazy stuff right there. you dont wanna put yet another projectors on the corners if you are already doing 2 in the front. what happened with my lights was that when i had the stock ones, on the corner i had the brighter lights mod on them, so when i installed the cefiros, those little things were too bright and too hot, and it actually melted the small housing there, so i took them off so it wudnt look weird. now all u see is a blue bulb.

yes, i was able to post pictures and all maybe like 3 weeks ago. i cant find the thread though because im not a paying member. maybe you could. i have pictures of the finished result on page 2. also the halogen projector, since u were the one that told me that i can put hids on it and they didnt have the shroud, i decided that im gonna buy a 6000k kit for better illumination on the high beams. my current set up on the low beams and fogs is 10000k so in the rain i can barely see 3 feet in front of me. wtih a 6000k kit on the halogen projectors things will change on the rain.

I did look at that post (http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=487980), I only saw pics of the projectors on, but didnt see any pics of the beam pattern with the cutoff. Just curious of the colors in the cutoff, especially with your HID setup.

they arent very good? granted they arent the best but i think they will do. from what ive read they give a purple flicker and are bright plus i got a good deal on them.

hmmm...i wouldnt want to **** anyone off so i guess that idea is in the garbage.

now another idea i have is instead of the angel eyes...how about putting a ring of led's around the projector. i think it would look pretty neat. what do u guys think? is this even legal?

This is a comparison of the beam pattern and cutoff between the E49 and S2K projectors.
S2K are on the bootom.

E49's dont have the best light output, but better then stock.

hmm...e39's still look pretty decent but it almost looks as if the shield is not lined up perfectly with the beam. i wonder if this can be modified by grinding down the shield a little bit. any thoughts on this?

ill take some d2s valeo ece's or some s2k.. they would solve that pesky e39 beam pattern (or lack of) problem..

Or some Stanley Projectors (TL/TSX)

TSX vs. S2K (S2K on bottom)

Acura TL (BiXenon) vs. S2K (S2K on bottom)

The S2K's has a real sharp cutoff but very similiar light output to the TL/TSX

if you are really handy with a dremel, that shouldn't be a problem. I have 9007 bulbs and they wudnt fit on the beamer projectors because the circular end on the bulbs is much bigger than the end on the projectors, and since i didnt want to buy another set of hids since i already had those, i dremeled the extra metal bumps on the projectors (carefully of course to not make a big mess) and i made the lights fit flush.

I have a friend stationed in Okinawa, another imports clips and parts off JDM cars and another friend who has hook-ups in the U.K. I'll see if I can do anything.

Fellow Maxima.org members, I am WAY late on this trend of retrofitting a maxima with HID ligths. I have been contemplating looking into a way to get HIDs for my car, but just recently realized I was already behind!

I would like to get a set built for my 99 Maxima, but do not think I could do it by myself and not mess up $100 worth of light housing! So I would like to contract someone to build it for me, with me supplying the parts. If anyone knows someone that could do it for me (and not for my arm and leg) let me know. I will pay for the person's labor, and supply whatever parts I need to get the HID set built for my car. If they are on the east coast, I would also possibly drive to their location and let them put them in for me. Someone please help a fellow Maxima lover get his car up to date and looking swift!

you want a projector retrofit or just hids? Getting HIDs in the car is not hard. Retrofitting the projectors is what takes time. There are a few guys that did them before, not sure if anyone is making them still. Pretty expensive to have someone make them tho.
