I wanna get a catback, but have a question...

Alright, so I would love to open up my exhaut system by getting a catback. I already have definite plans of getting a y-pipe, but I was holding back on getting a catback for one main reason.... the noise issue. The sound of the VQ30 with an intake is like music to my ears, and I do not want to change it by making it overbearingly loud at low rpms, or cruising on the highway. Is there any way I can get a catback exhaust with a sound resonator on it so I will only hear the intake/y-pipe combo? If so, who makes it? Thanx alot

I would suggest getting a cattman b pipe and leaving the oem rear section. The b pipe is the main part of the catback and will include a resonator. The rear section will be the biggest noise maker. Even after adding a ypipe, with just the b pipe the exhaust is not loud or annoying in my opinion. The oem muffler is a quality piece and sounds even better with a 2.5" b pipe like the cattman. cattman.com

Yeah i agree just buy a budget, cattman, warpspeed,etc.... b-pipe and keep your stock muffler. This what I did, i didn't get my b-pipe yet, but when i do I'll post a sound clip for you.

btw I have a intake and y-pipe so we'll see.......

I would buy the y-pipe before the exhaust alot more power! And very little sound difference.

That's a good rule of thumb, IMO. Start with the y-pipe first, and then tailor your choice of b-pipe/muffler or cat-back according to how the y-pipe changes the exhaust tone and volume. Its all personal opinion, all of us have different opinions as to what is loud and what isn't.

Yeah, I definitely planned on getting the y-pipe first. That sounds like a good idea to change the b-pipe, and keep the stock muffler, but but how much more power does the b-pipe add if I already have the intake and y-pipe combo?

I would venture an educated guess to be 3-5hp. The y pipe would be closer to 10-12. You will see more results if your 5spd since it has less loss than the auto would.

that setup sounds pretty much stock 2500 rpm+, its just a little bit louder at startup.

cruising it does drone a tiny bit but I don't mind it. Sounds beautiful in my opinion. I know joel misses it.

wow... 3-5 horsepower? that doesnt seem worth the $275.. lol.. and i heard that with the y-pipe and intake combo you can see like 20 horsepower over stock right? I'm automatic by the way
