Guys with drop coils please look
Hey guys i searched but cant find exactly what im lookin for. I want to lower my 95 max but i only want to lower it a little since it is my daily. I saw some 1.3" coils on ebay but i dont know if they would be good or not. What are the good known brands i should stick with? What are you all running? And can i use stock struts with only a 1.3" drop or so? Lasst Q, how much drop can be achieved before bottoming out? Thanks alot for any help guys!
Also, i will be running 18's with this drop.

i got dropzone springs off of ebay for my 97. they dropped it 2.0 in front and 2.2 in back. i still had plenty of clearance for daily driving (it's also my daily driver). and i also had 18's with them. when i put the bodykit on however...i had about 3 inches under my front bumper for clearance...so that sucked. but like i said...before the bodykit, i got around just fine with 2 inches of drop
i've had sprint/AGX's on my auto before and i currently have maxspeed/Illumina's. the sprints are the lowest springs you can get and in my car the drop was close to 2.5" front and 2.25" rear. (my sig pic) trust me when i say this, this is too low if you are worried about clearance and drive on bad roads. i had the sprints on for two years and i simply could no longer use them because of bad chicago roads and snow.
buy brand name parts. if you're not installing them yourself, the labor cost on replacing that $100 cheaper part once it fails will more than negate your savings. on that topic, when you do your suspension, install new strut mounts at the same time. this will prevent having to get them replaced later. for $30 per side it's great peace of mind knowing that you won't have squeaks and rattles in the suspension and more importantly that you won't have to disassemble everything just to replace one part.
stock struts are not appropriate for use on any lowering springs, period. you may get away with a small drop on stock struts for 5000, 10000, 20000 miles, but eventually they are going to go bad on you. suspension is one thing that is especially worth doing right the first time.
let's assume that you go with cheap springs and use all the stock parts that are on right now. within at most 25,000 miles you will have to replace the struts or the strut bearings or the strut mounts or all three. if you cheap out, you will eventually spend twice as much to fix everything than you would have if you had just done it right the first time, doubly so if you are paying a shop to do the install; you'll end up paying for the same labor two or even three times over.
both AGX and Illuminas are great in my experience. H&R and Eibach come highly recommended. for looks and great drop as well as competent handling Sprints are ok. Maxspeeds are less well known but i'm fairly impressed with them. if you go with a lowering spring that has more than a 1.5" drop, spend a little bit more and get something that allows you to correct the negative camber that these springs inevitably create. a spring that low used on an A32 suspension will change the suspension geometry and you will have uneven tire wear. full camber plates are of course the best option, but they are pricey. an alternative that is less flexible and customizable, but a lot more affordable are camber bolts. the $25 you spend on these babies will save you god knows how much on tires, especially since you're planning on running 18's. camber correction will also improve the ease of alignment and the how long your alignment stays true. on that note, if you can sucker your local firstone into letting you get the lifetime alignment deal, do it. i've had it for four years and get my car aligned when i'm there getting my oil changed
my advice would be this: if you are not sure about lowering, install other bolt-on suspension mods first. for less money than a strut/spring combo you can get a FSTB, RSB and the LTB. this will make a dramatic difference in your handling. and as long as you are doing LTB you might as well get the LCA bushings, too. if still want more and you would like less body roll and a firmer, more controlled ride, you can then go to a different spring/strut combo.

if this sounds a bit preachy, believe me, i'm on this soapbox for a reason. i'm speaking from experience and trying to save others some headache.
also, don't neglect the for sale forums. you can get great deals on good parts and meet some like-minded people at the same time. on top of that, there may be someone in your neighborhood that can do the install for a lot less than a shop. hell, some guys will do a suspension install for $100 and a case of beer

if you can't afford a proper suspension don't settle and just wait until you have the money to do it right.
