I had a hot date last night. So I wanted my "Dirt Devil Black" Max spotless. I took it to the hand wash but it was loaded in the evening and I was in a hurry so I took the chance in a machine wash. BIG EFFIN MISTAKE!!! I get out of the car to marvel at the wax job. Walk to the rear and let out a 5 minute string of curses. One of the employees came by to see what the hub-bub was about. I pointed out a 3 FUUCKING FOOT SCRATCH across the spoiler. The guy said the wash wasn't responsible because of the disclaimer at the beginning of the track. Apparently there was a declaration of independence type of fine print dislaimer (covered in soap, no less) that says they not responsible for cosmetic or fuctional damages. So pretty much they could strip your car to the chassis and it would fly in court. Heh, super ****ed I kicked a towel into the pulley system hopefully that protected any other cars from their "service".

BTW, by then it was dark so the girl didn't see the scratch, but she knew something was wrong by the tone in my voice. Spent most of today trying to convince her that it wasn't her that made me sour

Fixing light scratches

If its a light scratch, you might try picking up some Meguiars fine cut cleaner, and Meguiars show car glaze.

The fine cut cleaner is mildly abrasive. If used with care it can be used to buff out light scratches.

It leaves a haze - so, you follow with the show car glaze, which polishes out the haze to a shine.

I've had especially good experience with this combo in a similar situation - with scratches on the lower facias of my '02 Eagle Talon, which were plastic. I believe the Maxima spoiler is plastic as well.

Also fixed some scratches on the driver side doors of my '00 Maxima. I was able to buff them out to a point where some were removed, and others are now barely noticeable.

Just go slow, and work small areas - one light pass at a time until you get a feel for it. If you're not careful, I've been told its possible to polish right through the paint.

I've also used this on scratches in the finish of my bass guitars with good results. In fact this is where I learned to get a feel for it, and why I got the stuff in the first place.
