My bose head unit's cd player took a crap on me last week so instead of wasting my time on fixing it I decided to upgrade the whole system. I didn't feel there was a need to run all new wires since there is already wiring there and on top of that it would be a REAL PITA to run all new wires. So I was able to find a wiring diagram on the bose system. I was able to successfully bypass the factory amps and use the stock wiring. What a difference the aftermarket stereo made. I used alpine type r components in the front and type r coaxles in the rear along with a pioneer head unit. This setup completely blows the bose system away and I haven't even amped the speakers yet. I know there are a lot of people on here that ask over and over again how to bypass the bose system so if anyone has any questions feel free to shoot me a pm. If you guys would be interested I wouldn't mind doing a little write up on it. Just please don't ask me how to remove the door panels or rear deck. This has been covered over and over again so look around if you need to info on getting to the speakers and amps.

 

Nice job. I'm not sure if it's already covered in the stickies, but wire colors are a big help to those who need it. It's also pretty easy since the amp is in each door.

 

I haven't seen it in the stickies. It's actually pretty easy. I also removed all the extra wiring and junk around the amps that wasn't needed. I just want to see if anyone is interested in a write up first. I'm not gonna bother writing one if no one cares. It would also be a lot easier using coaxles than components like I used. The tweeter it came with was huge compared to the stock tweeter so it wouldn't fit in the a-pillar. I just ghetto rigged it to the door with heavy duty double sided tape until I can figure out a better place to mount it.

 

i'm interested in this. i was looking up info on just bypassing the HU since i didn't want to rewire everything but since you have a nice solution and you might be willing to chalk up a detailed write-up i'm all for it. this can be stickied to help other noobs like myself learn a thing or 2.


yea the wiring of the bose system isn't there in the stickies. a attempted to hunt for that 2 days ago and failed.

 

Nothing has to be bypassed at the HU...it gets bypassed at the speaker.

 

i know. you bypass the wiring going into the amp and make them go into the speakers.

I was just saying i was looking info to just run that metra kit on my bose. Since re-wiring would be more then what i want to do. But since NYC bypassed the amps, i dont need to get that kit, i can just run normal wires for the HU and just by pass the bose

 

I'll do a small write up on it but as far as removing panels to get to the speakers you guys are on your own. It has been covered many times in other threads and thats how I figured out how to remove them. I also don't have a camera to take pics but there really isn't much to show anyway. I'll try to get it done for you tonight after I eat dinner.

For the 5th gen with bose, it can all be done at the amp on the rear deck.

And will I be able to get the stuck cd's out once the unit is removed?

Yes, I've spent many hours reading and searching the sticky's. I did find info for pulling the LCD/HU out of my stock '05 but to get the tape/cd unit out I have to take the screws outta the side of the unit (or maybe the brackets are removed first?). This means taking the sides off the center console or using an offset screwdriver . I'm sure removing the sides is simple once you know the proper procedure. I figured I could find out here instead of breaking something by trial and error but I've had no luck finding out how to do the last step of the CD removal.

 

Never owned a 6th Gen, but I pretty sure that the service manual will show the major steps. At least it did for our '98, 2K2 and '09. They are available at nicoclub.com and there are links to them all over this site.

The entire assembly gets removed in one piece, with the bracket in tact. I believe even the screen is included on the bracket.
