Removed my wind deflector from moonroof...need help cleaning

I recently removed the wind deflector from my moon roof. The sucker had been on there at least 2 years. Anyhow I removed it w/o incident however now there is a mark or outline of the deflector along the front edge of the moon roof. I wouldn’t call it a big deal but it is pretty annoying to look at. I’m not sure if it is glue or some sort of wax. Anyone have suggestions regarding how to remove this mark w/o adding to the problem. I wouldn’t think I’m the only person who’s come across this. Thanks for the info in advance.

Little yellow bottle at Wal-Mart called scratch out, use it just like wax. Make sure you rub it in really nice. Now if it's glue like I had on my 4th gen... I actually took a razor blade and war REALLY REALLY REALLY careful not to hit or scratch the paint. There is probably a better way out there but that's how I did it. Hope this helps.

I'd wash and clay bar, then I'd use a goo-gone or something similar, and only then will I touch a scratch remover/polish, if at all necessary.

I dont think its glue, usually its the paint being scratched away by the wind deflector.. I had one installed for a month and when i removed it, low and behold no more paint.

It's scratched/marred paint. Try the wash/clay bar/polish/wax route. You'll probably be able to make it look better, but it woun't be 100% escecially if the deflector has been on for 2 years.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went ahead with my detail today. When I got to this part I decided to try some Bug & Tar Remover, usually used on the front bumper/hood area to get rid of...Bugs and Tar.

Anyhow, it actually worked pretty well. I wasn't able to completely get rid of the mark, but it has been reduced from being very visible to a mere silhouette of what it once was. I might reapply on the next detail. All things considered I'm fairly happy with the results.

Thanks again for the suggestions

I came across the very same fate -- except I don't know how long the deflector was on the car previous to my ownership. However, I can say first hand that it's scratching of the paint, and it even chipped a little bit under mine. Even with a full stage detail x2 over the last two years, the problem still exists, so I just rock the wind deflector.

Everyone gets their paint marred by tiny sand crystals that get caught under the rubber seal of the wind deflector. Your issue sounds like dirt build up or the rubber seal has decayed and stuck to your paint. Either way, you'll have to use compound or clay bar and lots of elbow grease. The mark will diminish over time but not very quickly. I took my deflector off because I didn't want to exacerbate the damage.

is it a good idea to remove the wind deflector anyways? are there any drawbracks or negative consequences?
