2002-2003 intake manifold power valve

How do I get the power valve (the butterfly valve that opens at 3800-3900 RPMs) working on a 3.5 w/ 3.0 timing chain/ECU? Works with vaccum right?

The last time I emptied the manifold but this time I'd like to have it working.

i have to say i know your not asking this but why use it?

even without the VI working this 3.5 IM on my car has power everywhere..tire spinning power
With it gutted its so perfect ,because i cant take of at idle now without chirping or spinning

I never thougvht id say this and i hope SR20DEN doesnt see this but this 3.5 IM is way underated and has ALOT of potential ,its a great IM.

Right now I have a dilemma between doing a full 3.5 w/ e-gas and ECU (Yes I KNOW how that went last time) or doing a good old 3.5 w/ 3.0 timing chain and ECU. But if I do that setup once again, I'm going to put aftermarket cams and ARP rod bolts this time.

I sort of like the switchover it makes at 3800-4000 and with that setup (w/ cams) it would really take off like, HARD after 4k.

Looking at your 12.7@108 time and your 3.88 0-60 really gets be wondering what this car will be capable of - it should be roughly 400 lbs lighter than your 2770 raceweight. And of course RWD with big tires.

Actually, the valve is open by default but is closed by vacuum between 1800-3600 rpms. I'm pretty sure you can skip the ECU control and route the vacuum lines to activate (close) the valve directly.

All the local maxima dudes know IM NOT AN ELECTRONICS GUY AT ALL, so some1 correct me if Im wrong, but....

An RPM switch is a switch that will activate at a certain RPM but stay active until that condition is no longer. So this would work for say an 00VI where it activates at 4900-5100 or w/e you set it to, and STAY like that until the RPMs fall below that. That's not the case for a 3.5 VI.

Did you mean to use a "window switch"? THAT will activate at X RPM and shut off at Y RPM. That would be what you need in order to get the VI to close at 1800 then open back up at 3600.

If you have looked inside a 3.5IM, it would answer your question easily... there is a shelf and a valve...

i also think that with it gutting and NOT having the rear elbow
Yup no rear elbow the airwill be better into all ports and prob make alot of high end HP. With that gone i think it takes 1 and 1/2 foot off the air path.

My thoughts exactly, I was toying with the idea of replacing the elbow also... looking at it, the bolt pattern is not a traditional 4 bolt square, did u just mock up a "flange" and weld it to the new piping or did u reuse that part and just welded the new piping on?
What did u use to gut inside? Its seems like its a pretty soft metal but there is not much room to work with tho...

i made a adapter plate bolted it to the rear of the 3.5 IM ,and bolted the TB to that . MY TB butterfly literally opens inside the 3.5 IM body now. I have never raced with this setup or dynoed it but i have driven with it and its a super "SSIM"
iam waiting for my EU to take advantage of it.

just get in there with a dremil with a good $50 mill bit ,theres two places to stick your arm in a garantee your forarm isnt close to the size mine is

You will lose torque down low, but the high end is so much more worth it.

What TB are you using? How are you running your TB cables? That is a super SSIM lol, I was thinking of just replacing the elbow with a shorter but full 3in mandrel 90 degree since the OEM elbow is 2 runners and looks restrictive.
Got any pics? PM me if you like to keep it a SUPER SECRET, I promise I wont tell.

I dont really care for the low end (I'll just tire spin anyways) since I'm turboed and will be cammed so I'm trying to push the powerband to the right as much as I can to make power around 8K. Built 3.5+SSIM+Turbo=

I think that people often misunderstand the meaning of having a high power FWD. I completely understand where you coming from in terms of drivability issue for someone to have a 500+whp vehicle let alone a FWD but the fact is, I'm not planning on that much power on a daily driving basis. In order to attain those goals, it would take more than just slapping on a 3.5, turbo and call it good...the point is, my car isnt gonna be that way all day everyday. I've been turboed for about a year now and on a daily around town, I only run at most 8psi and that is plenty. At first, I ran the car hard all the time but nowadays I rarely see boost at all. The setup that I mention above is strictly a track setup and rarely would I ever let that out on the street with that much power. Your concerns are acknowledge tho...

Well I got the motor half way torn down. Parts collecting so far:
CP 8.5:1 Pistons
JWT Titanium Valve springs and shims
EU

Still got a ways to go... but I have a list of parts that I want, just a matter of time and money. My buddy is also doing the same build on his and he has a bit more parts than I do already but he still need to order a motor
