200K and Thank You

200K and Thank You

I just wanted to share a major milestone (for me anyway) with the org. I turned over 200k on my odometer this afternoon. I know there are plenty of you out there with a lot more miles than this, but I really was excited to watch this happen on my car. Here are some pics...





I really appreciate all the advice from this forum that helped me get there! This is a great community. Best wishes on the new year.

I think within the next two years many people are going to be hitting the 200K odometer...

Congrats! My buddies 98 I30 has just a little over 200K. He beats it up regularly and doesn't maintain it well, yet it keeps on going and going. He's never had any major components fail and his auto tranny shifts nice and crisp. My 99 is at 125K, runs and drives excellent and shows no signs of it's mileage or it's age. It still has the original battery as well, it just keeps on going and going. So where's that Energizer bunny?

My 2001 BMW 330i with just over 100K is a maintenance nightmare. Seems like it's down for repair every few weeks. 300 bucks here, 300 bucks there, a new tranny 3 months ago. Lease them and give them back. Don't ever keep a German car for more then 3 years or 30K miles, they fall apart and it aint cheap to put them back together.

njmaxseltd: Well said, these german vehicles are definetly good but then maintainence is a nightmare. What surprises me is folks buying them and then shelling out bucks like no tomorrow with these stealerships. Some owners have this naughty look that they own a german vehicle and I don't -- but then when I hear them say I paid xxx big bucks for maintaince, I have the last laugh!!!

If you looked into the engine bay of a 330i, everything is encapsulated. If one has to replace something, it is a nightmare - don't know where to start and where to end!!! Look at Mercedes, it is last on JD Power's long term reliability... They even have the nerve to finger point JD's credibility since they are so low on reliability. These MB's don't come less than 30K -- that is the piece of garbage C220/C230. I would definetly go for a G35 for that price!!!

my max has 190K miles and its never had any major problems, minus the tranny. Not the cars fault i got stuck with a poorly built tranny. and the car gets driven HARD but the car gets maintained very well (oil changes every 4000KM, fuel filter every 20KM, tranny fluid every 35-40KM, BG 44K every 10KM) i work at a dealership so those things basically are free.

My friend has a 98 318i and he's had a couple of issues with it. I look into his engine bay and get dizzy looking at all the crap in the way....and covers hiding everything. A DIY nightmare. Just for a laugh I was in there trying to find his engine coolant sensor and gave up.

Nice job on 200K! I am confident that I will get there in a few years. Mine's a '99 with 110K. Problems? Had to replace all of the coils. Had to clean out a clogged EGR passageways. Right now I'm trying to figure out where my 5 second periodic rattling is coming from on cold start-ups. Sounds like a diesel motor for about 5 seconds. It's got me worried. If I can get passed this issue, I'll be happy. You're luck to not have had any major problems!
