Spray ether or some other quick start stuff available at auto parts stores, all around where there could be leaks. When the engine surges, you will have found a leak.

What twiggy144 said, carb cleaner would work also.

I suspected a vacuum leak 3 weeks ago and after a fruitless search I decided to call around and found a shop with a smoke machine. At first they found nothing but left the smoke machine go another few minutes and voila, the leak showed up. One of the emission vacuum hoses was off way under all my stuff in the engine bay. I really never tried to identify what hose was off, I was just happy they found it. Cost was $80.00.
By the way, very few shops in Vegas have this machine.
