Just make shure its grease and dust free and mask what you dont want painted and spray it with high temp paint.

Or if you want to go a step further and shave it then grind off the nissan and bondo the sunken in part. I used some kind of krinkle finish on mine. Holds up to heat good also.

Clean it good, and maybe scuff it up if you want your paint to stick and tape the middle part off, than go at it with the spray paint
I painted it gunmetal:

It's pretty easy. It just takes a while to tape off the letters. Make sure you use the high temp. paint.

You don't have to tape off the letters, there's a MUCH easier way. This is what I did:

1. Tape off the middle part. Painter's tape is EXACTLY the width of the strip, so it masks it off perfectly. Be sure to tuck in the corners.

2. Paint the entire surface with high-temp paint. Do about 3 layers for best look.

3. Let it dry for a while, then take off the tape.

4. Get a rag and some lacquer thinner, and carefully work at the NISSAN letters. The lacquer thinner takes it right off, so make sure the rag is not dripping in thinner and you're using light strokes to "break up" the paint. Be careful not to touch any paint you want to stay.

5. Once all the paint is "broken loose", the letters will still need finishing up. Just use a clean section of the rag and the lacquer thinner and wipe off the surface of the letters. They come out sparkling!

You're done. Slap it on and enjoy.

+1 on the painters tape for the middle area. it's just the right width.

for the NISSAN letters, what i used was an old chapstick, just rub it on after you've cleaned the valve cover and before you spraypaint. or i guess you could use vasoline. either way, after you put a couple coats (i used high temp engine paint), the paint on the letters should wipe right off.

Not that one unless you like to break the EVAP valve.

Yeah no kidding. Just took it off a while ago. Heard a faint whine, took a look and a hose was split.

yeah vaseline or chapstick or anything similar to it will work, just wipe it off when the rest of the paint has dried.

just push down on the EVAP, so it doesn't touch.
