I know hayden makes one for us autos available at pepboys. its not expensive, but is it really worth it? hoe difficult is it to install?

If you drive your auto max hard or have the VB mod, you should probably get the tranny cooler. The install does not seem all that difficult from what I have seen.

 

Just checked them out at PepBoys. There are two different types, one that I guess is the regular adn one thats "rapid-cool", which is a whole lot smaller, but promises better performance over the base model. I guess since our cars are more of the mid-size to full size cars, we should get the 677, which ran $49.99, and it says instalation takes only 30 minutes. so, i know what my next day off will be spent doing.

 

I thought the Hayden 404 was the cooler of choice.....I haven't heard of the 677

heres what somepne at level 10 (deemed auto tranny Gods) said about the tranny cooler on a site i found.

...I asked Pat of Level 10 if I should install an auxiliary transmission cooler. He suggested I install the largest transmission cooler that will fit behind my grill. He also said that it should be a stacked plate type and to stay away from the tube and fin type. He then handed me an 11x17 inch stacked plate cooler rated at 30,000 pounds made by Hayden to take home with me. Pat says that 9 out of 10 transmission failures are due to excessive heat....

I am recently purchased a Hayden 403. I belive the 404 or 405 is for large application, such as motorhomes. Look at the back of the box and it gives a summary of the type of applications.

I believe it comes down to how big of a unit you want hanging in front of your radiator.

I think a 403 or 404 would be what you want...

 

Easy with the motorhome business - those of us from the midwest take quite offense to that . When Don dod my vb recalibration, he said (like most men ), the bigger the better - and he actually recommended that I get the 405. It just depends on how cool you want to keep the fluid. Without a vb mod and the increased fluid temp and pressure, the 403 is probably perfect. With the vb mod, you might want to move up one or two levels. That's just the info I got from Don so you can take it for what it's worth! By the way, with my 405 tranny cooler, I plan to be towing my motorhome to its new location!!!!

 

The install is not very difficult. Just be sure you have the necessary tools and know how to do the job before you purchase the cooler.


It took me around 3 hours to install mine, but I was working very slowly and took many breaks in between.
