Shift Light Opinions

I'm thinking about putting a shift light on my car but I'm not looking to rice out my car so I don't want to mount a huge light on my dash. I want to wire one into an empty spot in the gauge cluster which might be hard to find. I know people have used other lights as a shift lights such as the check engine light or air bag light.

My question is has anyone ever put one in the dash and what do you think about it? Is it even worth it? Can you see it when driving?

Hmm not a bad idea... anyone mount theirs anywhere else?

I was thinking about using the PRND12 in the Dash that Nissan never used. It would be hard to get the light to show through because they aren't open in the front. Has anyone done this?

I would like to know the purpose of a shift light if you aren't going to race.
I mean, how hard is it to look at the tach if you need something to go by?

I know someone put LEDs through the back of the cluster and had them out the front of the cluster, and wired them as a shift light. I can't remember who, but it looked really good.

hmm, that led in the back of the cluster seems pretty good. Shift light is fairly useful, especially since it's better than taking your eyes off of the road. Also helps if you've changed the rev limit of your car. I have every intention of getting one and mounting it out of the way

the only reason i have a shift light is for when i use spray. the tach doesn't keep with the motor in first or second

Pretty usefull when boosted as well, just like as xlcrew stated, the RPMs climb so quick its ahrd to watch the tach plus keep your eyes on the road.

I understand those purposes but I'm just talking daily driving. That is what I thought the OP was talking about. Maybe he is boosted or running nitrous and I didn't catch that part.

I never race on the streets but I do like to open it up on a freeway entrance once and a while. The VQ is so quiet I find myself bouncing off of the rev limiter or very near redline. I guess I could put an intake or exhaust on it but I wouldn't give an engine that quiet up for anything.
