I'm part of the I30 family!

Well... after a '90 Max GXE, '94 Max SE 5-speed & an '02 Max 6-speed, I now have my first I30.

It's a '98 I30 White on tan leather. Automatic (I was dying to find a stick, but I had to get a winter car before the snow starts), 163k miles (yea, kinda high, but 1 owner, garage kept & FULL maintenance records from Infiniti dealer.) It needs a passenger side fog light, new front brakes, maybe new front struts & an antenna. The interior is MINT! The leather looks brand new & the exterior is amazing for a 9 yr old car. I can't wait for my 1st big detail.

I just had a 20% rear 35% side tint done yesterday. I'm not planning on putting too much money into it. Maybe a lip spoiler and some I30t / G35 17" rims.

George

Nice pics! I was just on my way to posting some snow pics too. How much did you pay for it? It looks to be in f&*#%! awesome condition! Was the original owner pretty light weight? Cuz those leather looks barely worn for a 163K vehicle.

You might want to get some factory floormats though. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum .

nice!!!! I swear by the nissan tan leather, it stays mint! but yours is like brand new! be prepared to have your o2's, waterpump, ks, and bose head unit go bad before you hit 175k!

The owner was a little skinny 40-50 something lady. She loved the car. It was always babied and garaged. I picked it up for only $3800.

As far as the floor mats go... the OEM Infiniti mats are underneath the "carpet" she has there. I just haven't gone out to get some nice rubber ones yet. I'd much rather get that carpet full of slush and dirt till i get some other ones.

Liar, was the odometer rolled forward? That car looks amazing for the mileage.

Sweet!

Be sure to protect frequently or get a slip cover for the steering wheel. Mine's thin leather coating has flecked away and I had to get a tacky cover for it as leaving it the way it was was an awful beat-on look.

For brakes, consider the dimpled & slotted EBC rotors & "red stuff" pads with braided brake lines. They are a little noisy with a "whoosh" noise even while brakes are not used, but daggum do they stop nice with minimal dust.

You shouldn't have a coil issue as we have the style that was used before the 99-2000 models and are not prone to faulure like them....but than again as someone mentioned, I'm not at 175K either.

Be aware that the Bose system has been an issue in many units of our generation. My #2 button has fallen out and my volume control is flaked out with intermittent control of the volume at all.

Be sure to protect the seats frequently. Mine still look good, but also look 9 years old.

Use the highest octane you can get in each tankfull for maximum performance. (The little sticker on the gas tank door isn't kidding.) Mileage is somewhat better too.

Also be sure to grease the sunroof tracks with something synthetic and keep them clear of debris. Lok specifically for the cable that is hidden in the tracks and focus on them. If the cables break that operate the sunroof, it is a real PITA to repair or it will cost you a grand easily to repair. It's not difficult, just tedious and requires patience.

I did it myself on mine and it was an all day thing to replace a $2 part. The repair kit is what must be purchased for about $75.

Oil changes are a breeze to do yourself and my experience has been great with the high-end Purolator filters and Mobil 1 synthetic. (I used to use Fram filters till I read the "filter study" someone did.)

Be sure to keep your battery terminals clean and you might even freshen up the ground connection to the frame that the negative cable goes too.

Also consider getting a front tower strut brace. It will improve the "roll" into the corners that this car has. As far as which one to get...it seems you get what you pay for. I got a cheaper one and noticed a difference but not huge. Others have said it was a huge difference (and got the Stillen or other higher priced ones). Keep in mind that mine was already a t version and is supposedly a little stiffer anyway.

Air filters are a joke to change and if I ever hear you paid someone to change it for you, I'm coming after you myself. Be sure to clean out the crap from the airbox when you do it.

Check the CV joints occasionally. I normally clean them up a bit with some detergent and thoroughly inspec them for wear. Adding lubricant to the boot is probably no the best idea as it can attract abrasive sand & pebbles too.

Let us have any questions you need.

So i just picked up a nice set of 16" 00-01 I30 rims off ebay yesterday. I can't stand these stock rims i've got right now. Nothing super sporty, but not a bad deal for $360 shipped with pretty new tires. I'll put them on once the weather clears up around March.

I know what you're saying, but they sure as hell beat the ones I've got now. Anyone have pics of a 96-99 I30 with those rims? I'm kinda curious.

A nice set of 18" wheels would do it some justice.

I'm gonna post the old floor mats on ebay tomorrow, lol.

As far as 18" wheels are concerned... i'm not gonna put much more money into the I30. My money pit is the GS.
