Cleaning the Upper im and valve cover.

Anyone have tips on how to clean up the corroded metal on the intake manifold and valve cover. Thats the only problem with my engine bay. Its a pain in the ***. I dont want to have to take everything off and sand it or whatever. Is there a chemical or an easy way to clean that up??? thanks

Brillo pad + Mother's aluminum polish + elbow grease
OR
Scotch disks + Mother's aluminum polish + battery drill

FTW!

Get yourself some Cast Aluminum Wheel Cleaner, a couple different sized wire brushes, and some steel wool. Also if the wheel cleaner doesnt make you choke when you catch a whiff it probably wont work to good. From my experience the stuff that makes you feel like your lungs collapsed works the best. Or you could just take it off and have it bead blasted.

You expected to be able to clean it by dumping some type of cleaner on it? If you're only cleaning the outside of it just use cleaner and some type of brush. Be careful with metal wire brushes, some are really harsh and you might not like the results.

You are removing corrosion, therefore need to scuff surface to make smoother and remove. the wheel acid is made to chemically remove BRAKE DUST not grease or aluminum corrosion.
