How do I know if my Sunroof needs rebuilt?

Right before winter came along, I had my sunroof open all the way (length-wise, not popped up), like most of us do until it snows on us. I came home and went to shut it and it stopped about half way closed. It pops up and down fine, just like a new one. But twice now, it has happened where I closed it and it stopped half way shut. I had to wait a couple seconds, trying the switch sparatically, then it finished closing all the way.

Now I will not open it like that. I will only pop it up as I am afraid it will get stuck open. SO is it a switch, or is this the big neon sign radiating a rebuild for the sunroof?

(Why not, I am already replacing CV shafts (both), brake hoses, rotors, springs, struts, and strut mounts in the spring. Why not regulators too on the power hole and windows while I am at it!)

Any info on the sunroof would be nice from all of you that have been through this (symptoms please - I know how to fix it).

The exact same thing happened to me one time...I turned the engine off and back on, slid it all the way back and gave it a small amount of constant pressure when I started sliding it forward and it worked. Not highly technical, but maybe you could try it when the weather gets better and see if it doesn't happen again. It probably got off its track, but if you can closed it twice, then it's just some sort of alignment on the track problem rather than something major...

just a guess

I'd have to look in the manual but it may have a safety switch if it notices any back pressure. So you can't squeeze your neck in the sunroof! Maybe the track isn't allow the roof to slide freely.

I was curious about a safety, or a switch malfunction as well. That is why I was curious to the symptoms of a sunroof rebuild candidate. I didn't want to invest all the time (especially) and the money when it was just a switch, or even better (worse?), just a safety feature to make sure I don't close my girlfriend's head in it and use her for a siren to get through traffic! LOL!

I know there was a writeup done a while ago on how to fix it, but it didn't list any symptoms. Well anyways, anyone who reads this and has gone through the pain, please chime in and list what the different symptoms were if you could, so we have it on record. Thanks.
