There are 3 Fuel Filler Necks for my 96??WTF??

Any help here would VERY much be appreciated, I did a search first, there is no detailed install for a fuel filer neck which Im guessing is a easy job, except for what my mechanic says he has to drop the gas tank. I was willing to pay him $125 to do it, it turns out I have purchased yet another wrong fuel filler neck for my car.

I called my local dealer he says there are 6 different necks, but mine is one out of three, and so far Ive spent 25 for one and 77 for the other, the correct one will cost 219.00 or 160.00 online. I asked him for the part numbers of all listing for my vin and this is what I have 1) 17221-40u02 that is not for my car and 2) 17221-41u11 he says is for my car. But these 2 show up for my vin?? Mind you (1) is less the (2) by at least 60.00.

Its too cold to go under it and check if I can retro fit the new wrong part I just got, can anyone here please tell me a direction I could take. How easy is it to install, and how I can find the correct ff neck, Ican supply my vin to those who work for Nissan, Thank you for any advice.

i've done, mine, its actually not too bad, i would have thought that the filler was all the same, but they did change alot of machanicals from 95/96 to 97+. sorry i cant help with the filler question though. have you tried to get one used? if so alot of times junk yards have the tank out already and it's alot easier to access. if it's the metal part that's bad it should be ok to buy used, alot of times the 2 rubber hoses get cut though

You can take your filler neck to a tank shop and have them redo/rebuild it. depending on whats wrong with it.if its a whole in it they can

When I got my car diagnosed by the dealer and my mechanic they didnt go into detail about what was causing it to go bad, I figured for 25 bucks just get another one, so far its cost me $100, If I find my real part I might take a crash course in repairing it just so I could think I saved some money.
