Ok I think I have a basic solution to our lousy location of a cool air source. Basically using the OSCAI idea with our pop intakes. Essentially just run a 3"(or any size for that matter) flex tube from the bottom (splash guard) right up to near the intake? Not sure of mounting but really all it would be doing is bring up a flow of cool air from down below. The location of our pop chargers is terrible with the battery shielding air coming in from under the hood and all engine to the left. A heatshield really won't do us any good since it would just block any source of air flow to the charger. I think once we figure out the best way to mount the tubing and what tubing to use it can only benefit? Let me know what you guys think?

PS At least we won't have to drill and as long as the tube blows cool air on the filter from down below it is just as good as CAI....I'm thinking maybe even a 4" flex tube for tons of air flow?

yea, ive thought about this too. cut a hole on the front (shiny chrome area) and attach a tube.

but i dont know, it seems like it wont work.

I think it would work and the cost is close to nothing. There is no question we can run a tube easily enough from down below to the intake area and it will bring in cool air. Lets try it out and see what happens? I'm going to take a closer look at my engine bay tomorrow...measure things out and get some ideas...take some pics...figure out what to use and how to mount etc.. Just start brain storming the idea.... I hope you guys can throw out some concepts..

I got the idea from this car I saw on the weekend. It was a 600HP 300TT...all modded to hell with NOS. Take a look at the bottom fender with the two JWT POP charges exposed. Awesome air flow but bad in rain. I found out that there are bypass valves for CAI intakes by AEM...essentially if water gets sucked up it some how spits it out. Dunno anything about but that is what the 300TT guy mentioned.

I think YJ had said that he had a similar setup to what you are describing. Makes sense.....let us know how it works

Please let me know

Will you be attaching the duct to the intake vent that comes over the radiator? I imagine you could route from the right side (facing the engine) of the radiator, but you'll need to build a scoop. Very excited to hear how you do.

Re: Please let me know

Ya taking a look at it today after I'm done work. I think your right I might re-attach the scoop and cut a hole out (like the oscai-route a tube from the splash to it and then route a large tube from all the plastic crap to the intake area....or just run a flex tube from the splash guard right to the intake area (with the scoop off). Either way should work....at least it will cool the filter off on hot days and bring up some cooler air and still get to keep the nice sound the pop makes. Can't hurt! Keep throwing out some ideas.. This might cure our problem of hot engine air?

Re: Re: Re: Please let me know

Hey man!

NP on driving my car...that is why we all hooked up to check out different rides/mods. Good meeting you guys too bad we couldn't have all gone for a cruise. Dark Nights was kinda lame IMO...no maximas either from what i saw? Got some cool pics..if there is any car you want to see a pic of from the show lemme know I might have it. (took well over 100pics)? Oh ya $15 to get in and that $10.00 BS parking off that dirt road??? There were some nice cars in the parking lot..better than a lot in the show! I went through the parking lot checking out cars and taking pics too!

I have my first prototype of my CAI tube to my intake area done. I'm not using the original scoop at all. I like the open concept in the engine bay for better air flow from below and throughout the right side of the engine bay. I ran a 4" tube from the splash guard (did not cut the splash guard it is angled with a lip and tied on to the guard) to the intake. I cut lips on each end of the tube to help induce air in from below and out to the intake. The tube is on the tranny area below and it gets hot but so far not a problem. I'm going to do a few more tweaks tomorrow and it should be fine. My car was really quick tonight too...who knows for sure...but it can't hurt and cost me nothing since I had extra tube in the garage.

PS This thread has got over 125 views yet only 3 people respond to it and only one or two ideas passed by? I dunno I guess I hope more people brain storm rather than lurk here...especially when looking for ideas to make our pop charges more efficient..

AIR INTAKE

What really works best is to route the tube to the front of the car where the air is constantly moving. All you have to do is twist the pipe slightly and go through the front and you have sort of a ram air intake set-up it's proven to work.

To get any sort of gains from a true 'ram air' you would need to make sure that the entire thing was airtight sealed to get the boosted results. Even then, most cars showed only like a 1-3 hp gain at speeds of around 100mph. True ram air and the ram air everyone throws around today are very different things...

BTW, I'm not saying that extra cold air sources won't help your engine!

Re: AIR INTAKE

I have it installed .5" below my splash guard on a forward angle (it is tied to one of the holes on the splash guard) so there is no question there is cool air coming up. I have cut a lip on the tube that will help induce air even more. If I can gain 1-3HP at any speed for the cost of nothing than I would say it is worth it.

I think gains would be realized at any speed since it is a large 4" diameter tube blowing directly on the intake.
I don't see why you would have to be going 100MPH when a 4" tube is blowing cooler air at any speed on the intake? From what you are saying a PR CAI would only gain at 100mph as well..that almost doesn't make sense since there is a constant flow of cooler air from outside of the engine bay at any speed? I'm not sure if you have a Pop intake but they are in a real lousy place. Either way I'm satisfied with my first install....going to do some tweaks later today.

Thanks!
