nForces 5 speed swap done, with wheel bearing problem?

Well it went great. 3 days of noon-ish to 10pm work and its done. Wasn't too bad... but it could have gone better.

Any way it drives great and shifts way smoother then my car. The exedy stage 1 feels super soft compared to my clutch. Which I believe is oem..any way I need to adjust my clutch pedal now...

On to the problems. First is cruise. Doesn't work. I followed the write up exactly. I have 2 wires from the neutral/reverse switch wired into the auto harness. And the brown and green wires shorted out. The wires may have fallen apart, I haven't soldered them like my car is (but my cruise/rev lights don't work because I think my switch is bad) so I'm not quite sure on that.

More importantly is the bad bearing noise.

When I drove the VE donor I don't think that sound was there. And Todd power washed the hubs 5-6 days ago because they were dirty as a 300K donor would be...and they also sat in the rain

So what do you guys think? We put 20 miles on it so far and the sound hasn't changed. Were going to pull the axles out a little from the hubs and PB blast the bearings and see if that helps. Any one have a better idea?

And yes were cleaning up our maximas so we can have a black 5speed photoshoot

Could be the input shaft bearing. Noise from the VE could have made it harder to detect when you drove it If it's the ISB, the noise will go away when you release the clutch (pedal down). If not and the noise is only present when the cars moving, you're probably right about the wheel bearing.

Is the cruise light coming on steady, flashing, or not coming on at all? Mine flashes from time to time and refuses to work and my reverse lights don't work as well. As far as the wheel bearing noise goes, I went through hell trying to track down a noise in my car for a while because the wheels didn't have any play untill the noise was really bad and I ended up replacing some other stuff before I figured it out. This is what mine sounded like.

replace the bearings...if you washed them and left them in the rain they are more than likely ruined. PB blaster will only make it worse since that is not a thin oil in there but grease.

PBblaster is also not a lubricant it is a penetrating oil.

Ok well were going to try to pack them with grease.

The cruise light didn't even come one at all.

And the VE wasn't that loud when I drove it I would have heard that noise...

You need to replace the wheel bearings, packing them with grease is not going to help anything, they are gone....

once they start making noise there is no fixing them.

Buy 4 wheel seals and 2 bearings and press them in.

Well when I drove my 240 for about 6-7 months and drove the max about 10 miles the rear drivers side made a rusted wheel bearing noise. The next time I drove it it didnt make that sound....

But yea I think Todds bearings are shot. But where are the other 2 seals. Todd bought the 2 bearings and 2 seals...Im not quite sure where the other 2 are.

nice job fellas.

i thought the wheel bearings are sealed...why would washing it cause it to rust or was it the extra pressure that did it in?

na they arent completely sealed...water and whatnot can still get in if you dont have an axle in there to seal against the wheel seal. At least thats the way it looked on my spare hubs...I could be wrong though.

Alex there is a wheel seal on both sides of the bearing...two per wheel.
