Been done before (didn't the 5th gen have something similar?), but I kind of like the idea. Maybe if they could have an RPM switch with override hooked up...

Too bad it's an N1.

What does that mean? I thought it was just a generic muffler... and I could always wire it to my summit rpm switch and have manual bypass

Anyone else?

why not spend the money and get the real deal? buy an n1 catback and get the controller, or, spend more money get the APEXi PS revolution muffler. <<< that muffler has an active silencer. when you're cruising around, there's hardly any tone. on full throttle it opens up and lets all the sound out

This exhaust does what you describe.. but instead of being vacumn driven and openning up its electric.

What I was aiming to find out was whether there was anything inherently wrong with these setups.. this one costs $US180.. Apexi would be $US600 odd

Back to it, anyone had/heard variable exhaust such as the above, sounds like i might just have to get it and see

Oh and what is N1 exactly ?

All I know is my friend put apexi n1 duals on his N/A KA and it sounds amazing, so it kinda makes me wonder how the max would sound. Probably not the same at all, thr KA justy has an awesome note.

My buddy had dual n1's with unresonated custom catback, stock everything else on his 4th gen and it sounded amazing. One of the best maxes i've heard.

Before we get WAY off-topic, pretty much any catback sounds great before the addition of a y-pipe.

The term coined "N1" came from the popular turbo exhaust by Apexera (aka. Apex'i here in the U.S.) deemed Apexi N1, the dual is quite simply two slightly smaller can versions of these mounted together for "better mids while retaining top end numbers." (so they say at least)

Here are some pics:

Thanks

I have a Y pipe so .. does that mean it will sound crap? Should I get the same shape muffler as stock instead of the pipe looking N1 style

Does removing the crushed section of exhaust help any with sound?

The reason anything with less resonation sounds like crap on our cars is because of non equal length Y-pipes.. Now if you had cattman headers and Apexi N1 exhaust per say I would imagine it would sound amazing (they are equal length), loud as hell but still amazing. At this point many would rather go with something quieter though so it seems, as would I just because can style mufflers drone like hell and attract unwanted attention.

If you're F/I there's a whole other side to this..

Not really. Even removing the resonator does not change much with the stock rear section. The stock rear muffles A LOT, even the stock b-pipe with resonator without the muffler is VERY loud. I think if people heard this there would be less people going for a straight through design and being annoyed with it later.
