New '94 VE 5spd!!! (no VTC clacking!!!)

I just picked up a '94 VE 5spd today So here are the details:

Good:
-Strong engine
-No VTC clack
-Rare 5spd
-140k miles
-single family car
-Rare Dark Green color
-VLSD FTMFW!!!!!
-Custom ypipe and full exhaust 2 yrs old

Bad:
-Bose Radio doesnt work
-both passanger windows dont work
-needs some suspension work (alignment or wheel bearings maybe?)
-Tranny/engine mounts might be shot (shifter and wheel vibrate during acceleration)
-Paint isnt real great (spots on hood, only one rust spot though)
-spoiler ends are detached and come up

I got the car for $1500 and was more concerened with the engine and tranny than the body as that doesnt need attention right away. So once the car is paid off to my parents the mods will start, intake, muffler, lower, wheels, etc.

Let me know what you all think (pics tomorrow),
Alex

Good luck with the new car. It sounds like it needs a lot of crap, even though the VTCs don't clack, which is nice.

The radio, windows and spoiler are easy fixes. The mounts might be tougher but it sounds like you made a pretty good deal. Painting it might be fairly expensive.

You'll be his first dual customer then... since you're still on for the VG spacers too, right?

Just a quick note, take the VG speed sensor. Or w/e the one that plugs in, which should be the VG's. Thats one thing I learned from nForces swap is the VE has a different connector for its speed sensor. Other then that they are the same though.

So, didn't the car smoke or seem like it had a power loss when you test drove it?

just curious. I don't think I need any parts at the moment.

The car didnt smoke which is why this suprised me, but when i went to do some prev***ive maintinance on the car i pulled the spark plugs and oil was dripping from the threads... Not to mention when i changed the fuel filter the fuel was dark grey!!!!

SO WHO NEEDS PARTS!?!?!?

dude are you sure? Get it compression tested. It could just be oil leaking from the valve cover seals....

Yeah. Definitely get your $1000 back since it sounds like the car isn't in good running order. But make absolutely certain this motor is trashed before parting it out.

Has the motor smoked at all since you bought it? You would see lots of smoke coming out the muffler if there's oil in the chamber. If you don't see smoke, then change the plugs and fuel filter and see what happens. Definitely do a compression test at Alex mentioned. If everything checks out, then you just gotta find where that oil is coming from.

+1, oil on the plugs doesn't mean dead rings.

That's what I was thinking and I was wondering how he came up with bad rings since it wasn't smoking or anything. Usually you can tell right away when you start up the car or hit the throttle by what's coming out the tail pipe.

well i cancelled the check so i will change out the plugs and i already changed the fuel filter, i just assumed that because there was oil on the plugs that it meant bad piston rings. Can i do a comp test myself or do i have to take it to the dealer or a shop?

Thanks for the info,
Alex

Go buy a $12 compression guage @ napa and screw it in the spark plug holes then crank your engine. Also, please respond to my pm instead of leaving me hangin..

Here is my therory...The valve cover gaskets are leaking oil into the holes where your spark plugs are...As you un screwed the the plug, the oil puddled up in the s/p hole ran down the threads of the plug, coating the end of the plug with oil.....

I personally think the engine is just fine....You just need to replace the valve cover gaskets...

Ask me how i think this your problem..
