Which OEM rims for a 97 Black Max?
Which OEM rims for a 97 Black Max?
In addition to some other mods I want to do, I've decided to finally get rid of my hubs and go for some rims for my 97 black Max. I want to go for Nissan rims and keep everything OEM-style, so I wanted to ask what you guys thought would be a good choice. I was thinking about going with the 5-spoked 97-99 SE rims.
Which Nissan rims do you think would look best? Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks,
Zach

If you are not lowering the ride height stick with a 16-17". I like the 5.5 gen TE 6 spokes. The 5.0 AE wheels are next. Some of the Altima wheels look nice, along with some Q45 wheels.
If you are lowered 18" will look great and youll have many choices there too.

16" SE RIMS ALL THE WAY BABY, i am looking for a set of those used ones my self, those rims are SWEEEEET!!!!!! the good thing about getting OEM rims like that is that they are stamped with a nissan logo on them so no one will want to steal them or ur car for them cause they can only be used on a nissan
my car was stolen in the past and i dont like having that feeling thats why i am also sticking to OEM and no ricey pricey stuff

Go with the 18's off the G35 coupe. They're great looking, just look at Lumberg's car.
I have the 17's from a 2002, and they're a good amount heavier than stock, it kinka sucks. but i still love the look..

andrei3333, Nissan rims can be used on at least two other cars that I know of and vice versa, so that definitely is a wrong statement. And as for them being stamped, any rim repair shop can fill in the Nissan logo and re-coat them any color you want.

fastisnothing - Those look really good.
I was thinking of doing the same thing.
I also though maybe a variation - like you did but keeping the 'grooves' in the middle of the spokes silver too.
Some Qs...
How did you get such a clean line between the black and (original?) silver?
I don't see how the blue 3m painting tape stuff would bend enough - or prevent paint running underneath for that matter.
So (not knowing how you masked out the silver) how hard do you think it would be to mask the grooves as well?
What did you do by way of prep? Did you sand the wheels first to 'rough them up', give them some 'tooth' for the paint to stick to?
Or did you just clean them and paint away?
Black primer, then black gloss, then clear coat?
From a spray can, or do you have a air-brush, or did you take them to a autobody shop?
What kind/brand of paint?
Did you use high-temperature paint?
I wonder if heat from the rotors would transfer to the wheel enough for it to be a problem.
How long have you had them painted? I've seen some 'home-painted' wheels (usually black) where the paint is starting to flake and peel.
Perhaps that's just due to a bad prep-job...
Have you lived in Saugerties for long? I have a friend, Peter Cline, who grew up there. He's about 45 or so...
And thanks.

Q 1= clean line...i used regular beige masking tape. as for masking the grooves. forget that. i had a hard enough time doing the circle...i did like 2 inch strips at a time and worked my way around
Q 2= washed, degreased and sanded with 600 Grit sand paper
Q 3= No PRIMER! i know, bad idea, i have a feeling im gonna be repainting these cause i never primed... I actually used flat black and clear coat, i did like 8 coats of black, then two clears, then two black, then like 5 more clear. i wasn't messing around i didnt want them to screw up cause i never primed
Q4= Duplicolor Wheel Paint, Two Cans of flat black and one can of clear coat JUST barely made all four wheels
Q5= i dunno if high temp works good enough, i hear the clear coat from high temp turns yellow after time, my autozone by my house didnt have clear or black in high temp so i didnt even bother considering it.
Q6= about two weeks, they dont chip really, if you reach down and just start scratching away with your fingernail on the edge of the lip it'll chip, but its not like people are gonna come up and start scratching
Q7= i've lived in saugerties my whole life, all 18 years. i know alot of people though, my dads lived here his whole life and he knows practically everybody what does mr cline do for a living?

on a second note
i'm hoping to drop with my painted stocks, hate to change the subject, but whats a decent but still functional drop ? website too if you know it. i hate seeing all my tuner friends driving around pot holes and refusing to go anywhere with speed bumps. they can't even go up my driveway. i dont want to drop it to the point where i have to watch out for little bumps but i want a nice look. check my earlier pictures to see the 4x4 in action

Thanks for the answers
Pete Cline lives in Amsterdam now (lucky bas)
He's in advertising.
I think his mom still lives there by you, can't recall her first name.
They had a beautiful old victorian it was on a hill that sloped down to water - maybe the Hudson but I don't recall a distance view, maybe a feed that lead to the Hudson
I put in H&R springs my self. A bigger job than I anticipated, but satisfying when it was all done. They dropped the car about 1.25 inches. I read a lot of threads and H&Rs were often the springs people liked. They drop enough to remove unsightly wheel-gap but still give a good ride. Sorry no website.
