Rim Powder Coating

Hey all. Looking into getting my rims powder coated semi gloss black on my black platinum. Anyone on here has experience with powder coating. Does it last a long time? Anything I need to be concerned about? Any questions I need to ask? This company will charge me between $500-$650 for the job. On Facebook they look like they do a pretty nice job.

That's pricey man shop around. Shouldn't be more than $400.

For $5-600 I'd be looking at a new set of wheels.

Actually powder coating is $50 a wheel but he is charging me for taking the wheels off and keeping the car overnight

I agree, with ChrisMan on this one. The quote he gave you has a good jump from $500-$650. Since that is what he quoted you, you might ask if he will do it for $450 cash. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Rim Powder Coating

Thanks for the info. Is powder coating pretty reliable? Would it last a good amount of time?

Powder Coating is more reliable than painting the rims. However, Here in Austin I have someone that does wheel repair and paint on wheel and have heard on NO issues from his customer using paint. He also does work for high-end dealerships. You will be fine with powder coating. Just a side note: if you are a clean freak such as I am, stick with the semi gloss. It will not show the brake dust as much as gloss would and I don't think matte would look right on our cars. JMO

God-speed. Thanks for the info. I will call a couple of more shops on Monday about the price. Plan on doing the semi-gloss. This is my bday gift this year according to the wifey.

Wheel /Rim

So are you powder coating the whole wheel? Nice idea if it holds up

Plan on doing the whole wheel. Why do you say hope it helds up?

Powder coating is very durable more so than with just painting a wheel. You shouldn't have an issue. I've done various wheels with powder coating and all have held up.

Just don't go looking to run ya wheels in curbs and you'll be just fine!

Good to know about the P C durability on a wheel. I have no experience with this coating.

I have PC wheels for the first time. Are supposed to be durable - but can't use tire shine or many wheel cleaners - or so I'm told.

I wouldn't go spraying wire wheel cleaner on them. Depending on color... regular soap and water is just fine. As far as tire shine there are no issues with dressing your tires.
