need help wiring heated seats...

i searched and found a few posts related to 3rd gen's but i was wondering what some of you 4th gen guys did with wiring...?

the situation:
i have a parts car in my possesion that i took the interior from, so the wiring, switches, etc are there. most of the panels in the engine bay are gone from an accident the car got in so i have no clue where the relays are. i was thinking about taking the wires and sumhow tapping them in, but then i realized i needed the fuses and ****. my trim level is gxe. the only wires i found underneath MY car's pass seat was the power seat hookup.

my questions....
1, is there possibly the heated seat hookup under the carpet buried?
2, what did those of you that added heated seats do to make them work using the factory switches??

thanks

1. NO
2. Bought the harness plug connectors (the ones that connect to the actual heated seat switches, and the other ones that connect to the plug connectors under the seat) from org members parting their cars out, and wired it together, ran some power and ground. Done! Piece of cake! Just make sure you tap a switched power source, not a a power source that has power all the time.

Not necessary, but it certaintly wouldn't hurt. I tapped the power source for my power mirrors IIRC. I did not add an additional inline fuse.

I did pretty much the same thing as wizard, but may have used a different switch from the fuse box. If i remember right there was also an easy grounding spot next to the ebrake for the switches. There is also a nice outline on the back side of where the orginal switches would be cut out as well, so that helps.

I tapped the power mirror wire coming right out of the back of the fuse box by our knees. No, I don't remember the color of the wire. But, if you can wait till later when I get off work, I can check for you and report back. Let me know.

And like Poowill said, there's an outline of where to cut underneath the center console for the location of the heated switched. Don't guess and cut from the top.

Whatever you tap into you wanna know what amperage is gonna be pulled, if you tap into a wire in which is fused 10 amp and you pull over that amperage you'll blow it...wintertime and you wanna get your bisquits warmed up and you gotta adjust your seat because you moved it earlier cleaning it and ZAP fuse blown...... its always good to know what you're tapping into so you don't burn anything up...

The wires under the seat have power at all times. You could tap these wires, but I wouldn't. You WILL forget to turn off your heated seats one day and you'll burn up stuff, let alone come out to a dead battery. I can't emphasize enough that you tap a switched power source. When you pull the little door to the fuse panel, you'll see IGN, BAT, and ACC. Pick either IGN or ACC. Anything that has BAT has power all the time, you don't want that. I chose the mirrors because they are ACC and are the same 10amps as the heated seats. The wire coming out of the back of the fuse box for the mirrors is red with a yellow stripe. I tapped that wire for power.

To make life easy, you can buy a thing called "Mini Add A Circuit" (part number FHM200BP) found at Autozone or any auto store. You'll find it by the fuses and it comes in a small green package. Make sure you buy the MINI version, as our fuses under the dash are the mini kind. It allows you to work at the front of the fuse box and is quit neat. You remove the desired fuse, plug in this gizmo, connect the supplied butt connector to the new accessory that requires power ( your heated seats in this case) and stick your old fuse into the top of the gizmo. Then plug an additional supplied fuse into another slot in the gizmo to protect your heated seats.

If you don't have a Haynes, now is the time to invest in one. And download the FSM for free, it will come in very handy.
