That sounds good. Flat black mesh on glossy black body, that'll keep it stealthy.

oh and how are you going to unlatch the hood after you get the grill behind it?

Are you just going to weld an extension on the latch that goes down far enough (what I would do)?

 

heh... I did start on it after it rained sunday, lol.

Extending the latch is a good idea. I was intitally thinking to make a hole in the mesh and weld an outline to reainforce that section.

O!!! I know! I can extend it and raise it up just under the hood and cut out a little of the hood support for leverage. PERFECT!

I do gotta say that I HATE grilles that are attached to the hood. Not for looks purposes, obviously it looks great, but you don't know how many times I hit my head on them while working on the car!

 

ur front bumper looks similar to a sentra ser front bumper

 

I'd say no polished bars for that car - flat black mesh sounds pretty good

Looks great goon. If you are going to do mesh don't buy that "grill mesh" that most parts places sell. Go to Home Depot and buy gutter cover for about $1.95. It is the exact same thing. Save some cash.

who cares though, the Maxima is automatically cooler anyhow. I think the grille looks pretty neat. can't wait to see that primer turn into color.

Hood latch shouldn't be a problem. just weld \a piece of 3/8" tubing or solid rod to the lever pointing straight down. instead of pushing it up like you do now, push it to the right- like a lot of domestics that have the grilles done that way. will be very simple actually. should be tons of room down there.


next question.... how much does this thing weigh with all that bondo and extra steel?

 

How I resolved my grille/hood union was to buy a lawnmower throttle cable and attach it to the release lever on the latch. Ran it down below the front bumper beside the passenger fog light. Just reach down, pull out and Ta Da! Push back in to resecure. I always wanted to do something more secure though like you've got, welding a fabricated peice, like the Dodge trucks do with their grilles attached to the hood. Mine has been a stock grille bolted to the hood. Has been sturdy though for several years now. Can't complain.

I think I really like the cable idea. If I can't modify the latch easily, i'll put a cable on it.

Matt: The metal is scrap from the donor car, it's really thin and not real heavy.

you see, after the turd gen they made this thing called a 4th gen. nissan bigshots thought they were too cool to drive around in plane jane maximas, so they told the infinity ****'s to copy the maxima, but pimp it out. in turn they said, we cant use a plain jane name, so they decided to use numbers and letters and poof! an i-30 is born.............................................: jump:

havent looked at the latch on the i-30, but it may just have a rod or lever to allow you to open it from under the grille/hood opening. shouldnt be too tough to extend down though to get it to work. looks good, put some mesh behind it. are you planning on sticking with the lights?

 

I know what an i30 is.... It's the same as lexus to toyota.

Need to hit it some more with plastic and then I'll get some mesh. I'm going to try to Finish the front this time around.

I wanna use a better mesh than the home depot stuff, but don't want to get the apc garbage. Possbily get a stiffer expanded metal mesh, or speed mesh. I just donno where to get uncut speed mesh.

 

BTW I liked the smoothed out front better then how it was before [like the filled in accents - if you get what I'm saying] did you smooth in the trim parts on the doors too?

No, I havn't done anything with the doors expect shave the handles.

 

You should finish off shaving the doors.Or at least photochop it, it might look good.

Nope. The car was put on hold, I'm trying to bring a 96 pathfinder back to life. I'll update it when somtheing get done to the max.
