Ok, I know this will be pathetic, but I had to share it with you guys. I was just on my way home and I came to a stop light along side this 5-speed Corolla. I was'nt even thinking of racing it, mainly because I was tired and knew it probably could'nt try to keep up with me, and he showed no sign of racing. So the light turns green and I accelerate normally, up to around 2700 - 3000 rpms in first and right as I'm about to shift I hear this guys engine crying for help as he's trying to keep up with me. His nose gets to about the middle of my car, so I just put it in second and lay on the gas and even though I was in low rpm's in second gear, I still blew him away by about 6 car lengths by the time I hit 60 mph. I wish I would of just left it in first and totally made a fool of him but oh well. I know it's sad, but I felt it was my duty to show him he could'nt beat the maxima.

now I don't feel so bad since most of the dorks who try to race me are NA Eclipses, Focuses, Neons and for some reason a LOT of S-10 Xtremes. Hey, you still have to defend the Max's honor, right?

Smoke an Eclipse for me. For some reason I have a natural hatred for that model, much more so than the Civic. Not all Mitsubishi's, just the Eclipse

damn, I beat a Corolla too

I was at a light just last night and this guy in a Corolla with a system pulls up next to me. No sign of racing or anything but as the other light turns yellow he starts pulling forward out into the intersection by a car length (cheating!!!!) and then hits it when it turns green finally.

I started out normally and caught up almost immediately but when I heard him holding 1st gear longer and the loud buzz of the tiny engine in those things I just hit it. I just got my AEM CAI installed so I let him eat the sound of my intake and blew by him.

It's funny, but Tercel owners are sometimes the same way. I know there's no glory in a kill like this, but sometimes you just have to put these cars/people in their places

Dude, come down to Va. Beach and it's almost a daily challenge. RS's & GS's around here think they're the shiznit. It takes me about 15 minutes to get to work each day, and I'll usually end up playing with one almost every other day. Don't know what they're smoking, but that car must feel fast somehow. S-10's are still the worst around here. It's a lot more fun to humiliate the tough guy in his bad *** truck than the punk in his Eclipse. They get a lot more PO'd too, which makes it all the more fun.

Haha. That may have been me in the Tercel and the Corolla. I had an 81 tercel and still have a 92 corolla and they have a bit of pep for econoboxes. I certainly don't race from a stop, but I like to zip around on the hiway. They are very nimble and if you can hold a lead in those little tincans, you know you're a good driver. The corolla was actually pretty decent from 0-60. I did > 110 on the hiway with it and the engine was smooth but the car felt like a boat floating on the water. Then again, I had 150k miles on the car and still had original shocks. If you want cheap transportation that never dies, you can't beat a toyota.

I agree, those corolla's are very reliable cars, especially the early 90's models. But still it is no match for the maxima. I also find that the s-10 drivers love to try to race also, they always chirp their tires in second every time, yet they are still behind me. Ive also started to see s-10's with a badging on the side that says "SS" whats up with that. It looks like a bone stock s-10. I don't run into too many eclipses around here, but i'm more than willing to take any of them on. Except for that one in "Fast and the Furious".

Hey now..those Corollas are bad-***!! I drive a '91 Corolla most of the time..but I always drive it hard..its usually at WOT. I'm not racing anyone..but I always floor it from a stop.

It's pretty funny cause once this guy in a current gen Prelude thought I was racing him..so he revs the engine while I just go about my way.

btw, When the Corolla is flooring it..the Max just has to stay at 3K rpms to keep up..pretty cool huh?
