OK, so how much will I be spendin...

Please forgive me in advance for this silly question... I just bought my Max from a buddy of mine and I want it to go REALLY FAST. How much would I be in the hole for a turbo versus a supercharger... Not too sure about either one, but I am not filthy rich either. I sorry if I sound too much like a New-B, 'cause I am. By the way, I drive an automatic. Thanx, y'all!

SC/Turbo forum....looking at a lot of money either way. SC 3.5 would be my idle setup. If you don't have a lot of money then this thread is over since SC will cost $2000 used. Plus it's hard to find everything you need.

Really, if you wanted to "go really fast" you should have started with a different car.

I would drop a 3.5 in if you are looking to gain some speed. Put it on a diet and add some nitrous and youre about as fast as you would be with a turbo/supercharger with better and easier parts to work with. Save some money start by dropping a 3.5 in.

3.5 (depending on year) is only about 30hp faster than our 3.0s. it would cost probably $500 for the engine and maybe like, $1000? for somone to install it(throwing a number out..not exactly sure. i know someone on this site had extra 3.5s and sold them and installed them for $3000). and ide be careful with adding nos without building up the engine. i know these vq's are strong but personally i would not add nos to any engine that was stock. just to make sure it didnt get blow to hell and leave me with no car and no money to fix it.

All 3.5s are 255-270 hp, depending how they are tuned. That is a 65-80 HP increase...I think you are thinking of the VQ30DE-K, (2000,2001) with the 00VI making about 30 more hp than the VQ30DE.

You are trying to make a silk purse out a sow's ear, given you are starting off with an autotragic.

That was your first mistake. Don't compound them.

the fact he has an automatic doesn't matter. There are a few guys running automatic on here that are faster than the majority of the org. Jime being one. He's auto and runs one of the fastest times on here. Actually I think a few of the top guys are auto. Auto doesn't prohibit being fast IMO.

I wouldn't want an auto with a fast car...only because you have a harder time controlling wheelspin. I feel much more comfortable driving a manual rather than an auto....mainly because you have complete control of the car.

For starters 5-8K.

When boosting a car that was N/A from the factory there is alot of know-how that needs to be learned or you will have petty problems all the time.

What does that have to do with anything? I don't recall what type of racing the thread starter was interested in doing, can you point that out for me?

Okay, you can't even do the research to figure out how much you'll be spending. Do you really think you're going to do the research on a 3.5 swap and SC install?

I don't feel like explaining because no one cares about the shape of the curve. And everyone likes to point out peak advertised #'s. Useless I tell you.

Yeah they are. Didn't you see the one in the fast and the furious? haha j/k.

Yeah plan on spending 5-8k like posted earlier. Turbo or supercharger, intercooler and plumbing, internals and/or bigger block, injectors, fuel management, gauges, exhaust and dyno tuning add up really quick.
