Clutch/rear main
Ok, i think my rear main is leaking in my 95 (5 speed) and its on the clutch and pretty much smoked it, getting major slippage now, anyone have this done or do it?
1. Would it be easy to do with your basic common no special tools?
2. How much at the dealership?
3. Independent shop?
I'd check what kind of fluid it is but it's raining here right now, when i changed the O2's i noticed the leak in the bell housing cover but i paid no attention to it due to having no puddles or spots anywhere, the axle is the limited slip one.

I've done several of them, one for an .org member, you can read his feedback he left me or pm him. To do it properly requires removal of the upper oil-pan, which means you need an engine hoist to support the engine with once the trannsmission is removed. So that answers question 1. As for number 3, Ludlow isn't that far from middleboro/plymouth mass.... $250 labor for doing a clutch and rms/upper-oil pan seals is a pretty good price, parts will run roughly around $75 NOT including clutch, But I will pass on my 15% discount I get at the local nissan dealer for anything you need. I recommend an oem 5th gen clutch, in addition you will need y-pipe gaskets, the 2 oil pan seals, the rear main, and the 2 oil-pan o-rings.

about 2 hour drive and 100.change in miles to middleboro. Thing is i dunno if it will make it that far. How long of a job we talking hour wise?
didn't stop to check with the fam mechanic on the way home. probably should have and also asked him.
Done everything else myself so far, just don't have the equipment to do the clutch.

Aww man I thought Ludlow was a little closer than norwood, I geuss I was way off! It needs to be left overnight for sure, I can't risk a leak because the permetex didn't set. Deffinitly don't go to the stealership for that job though whatever you do, they will rape you and probably hack it in anyways. Print off the instructions in the fsm for the local tech and make sure he drops the pan and does it the right way.
