I serached and someone said don't need 4 wheel alignment. I replaced all 4 struts/shocks. Do I need 4 wheel alignment or our car only need 2?

I would still do the 4 wheel because the shop can then check the thrust angle. You can also check to ensure that your setup is still within factory specs.
There is some lee-way on the rear, but it's a real pain in the **** to adjust.
I think I paid 80 Canadian for the 4 wheel. Peace of mind priceless.
Uneven tire wear.... not a concern.

 

Look at it this way: our cars have a rear beam axle. If there's something wrong with the rear alignment, it will require bending/boxing the axle which is some serious cash. Pretty much the only way there is something wrong with it is if you hit something with it.

So, if you can have 'em check it, then go for it.. but they probably won't be able to do anything else for the rear wheels.

 

they will align the front good and make sure it is aligned with the rear. that's why Town Fair Tire has a thrust angle alignment.

 

any shop with the alignment machine should have the capability to check the thrust angle.
Do you work for Town Fair Tire or something?

 

four wheel alignment i say is a must, i paid $59.99 at sears,

 

Have the trust angle done to see if you have concerns with the rear and request a before and after copy of the alignment printout. If they say printer is not working then I suggest checking somewhere else.

 

I know any shop will be able to to. No I don't work for Town Fair Tire. I was just using that shop as an example because I just got new tires from them yesterday.

 

The rear cannot be aligned on these cars.

 

I just got an alignment and the guy said my right rear wheels was off by like .5

 

Then that means your rear axle / beam is bent.

Was it 0.5 of a degree or 0.5 inch? 0.5 a degree isn't much, did you have a full tank of gas? Did the technician bounce the car up and down to see if it changed? Most likely a bushing getting soft compared to a new one.

 

not sure. but nice post. i think it was a little over .5 degree. he didnt bounce it up and down, i had about 1/4 tank for gas.

 

I guess the technician checked for any rear wheel bearing play? I would give the rear a look over and the next time you get a wheel alignment fill up with gas and see if it is the same. Keep an eye on the rear tire and if you notice any uneven wear then you should rotate them sooner than normal.

 

i work at an repair center as a suspension/front end tech. i just replaced my front and back struts and the mount bushing. the maxima has a solid rear axle. the alignment machine itself won't give any spec for adjusting a rear end. if your car back tire is off, you need to visit a body shop to pull and frame or your rear axle itself is bent.

Well it cant hurt to get all 4 checked...but dont pay for a 4 wheel alignment. A lot of places outhere have a 4 wheel alignment where they check and adjust. Makes sense though, if your back end is out of spec then theres not much they can do. All in all basically the point people are trying to make is, if you havent hit anything or have had anything done to the car were the rear beam has been bent, then just ask for a 2 wheel alignment. Cant adjust the rear so why bother.

 

old thread but here goes, i have a 5th gen and last winter i fishtailed into a curb and it knocked my whole wheel off the stud basically broke, bodyshop fixed this along with some damage that was done to the body.. i noticed that the wheel that hit the curb is pushed in alot more than the other side basically i hit the passenger side on that side i have 1 1/2 inches from rim to the outside of the Quarter panel and on the other side which was not hit i have less than 1 inch... im guessing sumthing is really wrong now huh

 

I fail to understand how you could have repairs done like that without receiving a printout showing the alignment specs after the work.

If that was omitted, pay for a professional alignment where you get a good printout showing the before/after specs. Eyeballing misalignment issues isn't very useful. If you have a problem, this should show it.
