Well what do oyu know, around that time i will be looking for a new car.

And i think if it looks and performs as good as they say , it will be mine.

my 02 is my 5th maxima , so why not get a 6th when the time is right?

...key is in the ignition ( - talking lady)

as for as the article they seem pretty excited ! if they went back to a 4 door sports car theme, id be excited, if it turns out real wheel drive, i would be blown away. heck the maxima needs to be bad to the bone, i like the idea of standing, looking at the G35, 350Z and new Maxima, having a hard time figuring out which one i want to buy, lol !

This is really encouraging!! Im glad Nissan has acknowledged this shift in focus the maxima has taken over the years and decided to revert back to its earlier roots. (if this article is correct). As much I would absolutely looooove for them to make a RWD or maybe AWD version it will never happen. The maxima is Nissan's flagship sedan and introducing a RWD or AWD model would destroy G35 and 350Z sales - it would just not be in the interest of the company. I just hope they offer a 6spd HLSD in addition to CVT that has been lately introduced. Im excited to see what happens!!

Heart this kind of stuff before. I'll wait and see whether nissan can:
1. knock about 500lbs of weight off the car (doubtful)
2. completely change the style to something smooth and sporty (if the new supposedly sporty Sentra SE-R is any indication...doubtful)
3. keep a 6MT around (CVT and tiptronic just don't qualify)
4. knock another 200lbs off after knocking 500lbs off it

Rebates are a Nissan way of life. Unless a person keeps the car over 5-6 years, because of the poor resale the car is actually not cheap to operate. So if you want, why not get a RWD or AWD car? Maxima is no longer a sport sedan imho. And the VQ is showing its age--every car test today says it's seriously noisy at high rpm. What was excellent in 1995 is only good in 2k7 going on 8......

You know it's going to be bad, if they are already trying to hype a car that is 2 years away from production. I bet it's going to be a Japanese Cadillac DTS -- powerful, roomy, and luxurious, but ultimately nothing more than a FWD cruiser.

Yeah, nice article. I'd still bank on the 2009 max being FWD, 3900 lbs, 280-290hp, 18-19 inch wheels, CVT, etc., that will make it's first debut in the large car class. Given Nissan's trend... I really doubt the 4DSC will be coming back in anything other than the Altima.

maxima done right : RWD, sleek sporty 4 door design, lightweight as possible without losing luxury, manual tranny option, plenty of VQ power.

Interesting...

I agree I'll have to believe when I see it, but I hope Nissan brings out a Maxima that has a great looking design and a manual gearbox. RWD would be nice but that isn't going to be happen.

Hopefully Nissan is as excited as they are saying they are.

It certainly makes sense to make the Max bigger, considering the Altima. If so, you can be certain it will be the 300 hp 3.7 with CVT only. And the 4-door coupe body style also makes sense for the just-above-family-sedan market.

Bringing back the 4DSC does not make sense (even though I would like one) because there just is not enough of us to buy it.

Isnt "return to the 4DSC" the tagline they hung on the 2004 Maxima press release?

When it comes to true sports cars, I think you can do better than the Z. Not that it is a bad car, but its based on a sedan platform.

Dont get your hopes up guys, every year since '03 Nissan has let me down except when then debuted the VQHR series (that was the only thing that made me smile) but that was quickly demolished when I saw what the new G37 coupe looks like. eww. heh.

Plus, maximas lost their luster when they started being made in good 'ole Smyrna, TN IMO.. Oppama was FTMFW, oh well.

370z is my next car, rumors say '08 or '09 release. I'll wait for whenever it touches our soil and grab one.

I know you guys probly aren't into domestic but if anybody's seen the Pontiac G8 thats coming out for 2008, might give those cars some competition, next summer I believe... RWD 3.6 dual overhead VVT 262 HP i believe for under 30k the GT model has a 362 horse LS2 and a 6 speed manual or auto for around 33-35 I think?

It may get Nissan to redesign the Maxima to better compete with the G8. Judging by the sound of it, I doubt they will since they are sticking with FWD.
