Power loss after 80 - 90mph

Hi all,

My 4th gen pulls hard all the way up to 80 - 90 mph then the whole note of the car changes down a pitch like its being pulled back. Has anyone encountered this problem before? It seems to be when it hits 3rd gear in the auto...

I have a MEVI, and stock exhaust. It did the same thing when I had the USIM. I've been meaning to figure out what the problem is for a while but have been side-tracked on other mods.

I originally posted this in the 4th gen section but Ceasar suggested I post up in here...

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?p=5676583

Cheers..

80mph is the very begining of 3rd at WOT, and being as 3rd is a ridiculously long gear for an Auto the car will fall on its face somewhat until RPM's start to rise again.

Lock up torque converter. Leave it in D, all should be fine.

This thread has lots of good info and references to it, read it all, then lockup torque converter.

On th highway, play around with the O/D button, and you will notice it does this when the converter locks/unlocks. BTW, O/D off light on= you're in 3rd, O/D On (no light) you're in 4th, overdrive.

This is at WOT.. and it actually happens *after* the 3rd gear has changed.. for example.. it'll go into 3rd gear fine at WOT and it'll hit about 88mph and it'll THEN die off, like it just got a fuel cut.. it'll do it for 5 or so seconds then it'll take off again..

What i'm saying is, it doesnt happen directly after it hits 3rd gear..

and just reading that link you sent me:

There we go.. mine is an A32.. so I shouldnt have this problem right?

Ok, so then can you explain to me this post?

And, read my post in that very thread.

I never said it didn't happen @ WOT, nor directly after 'hitting' 3rd gear.

Get a dyno and see what power you're really putting down. And try leaving it in D, like I stated earlier, and report back the results. Right now, we do not have enough information/data from you.

More good information based on the limited information. We can sit here all night and make suggestions but unless you go out and do some testing, not much more we can do.

Ok dude. Thanks for your information, but seriously - chill

I was mostly putting a message out there to see if anyone had the same problem - to see if it may be a simple/common fix.

I'll go get the car dyno'd after I throw the Y-Pipe and catback exhaust on in the next month or so and come back to this.

Once again, thanks for your help

I'm usually pretty chill in other forums, but in this forum, I expect data, numbers, more than one attempt to correct a problem, information on different approaches, and overall more than just a feeling type of threads.
